Question: Should I replace my existing iPhone docks with new ones? Answer: No, there are no docks with the lightening connector out there. More importantly more than 99% of people with an iDevice have the common 30 pin connector that current docks are designed for.
Question: What shall I do for the possible 1% of guests with an iPhone 5?
Answer: Provide them with a current dock, they will have will no doubt have an adapter because they would need that at home or the office any way.
Question: I am thinking of purchasing an iPhone dock, should I delay my purchase until an iPhone 5 dock is available? Answer: No, 99% of people with an iDevice have one with the common 30 pin connector, even if they upgrade their phones, it won't be overnight.
Question: I'm still worried, what can I do?
Answer: You could purchase a dock that also has a USB charger. iPhone 5s along with all iDevices, Androids and other smart phones can charge via USB.
Question: When should we buy a dock with a lightening connector?
Answer: When the majority of guests are carrying iDevices that require a 9 pin lightening connector and there is a reliable dock from a reputable manufacturer.
Question: When will the majority of guests carrying iDevices have the 9 pin connector?
Answer: It took 4 years for iPhone sales to reach 122.5 million which is 50% of the current market. So far analysts have over predicted iPhone 5 sales so your guess is as good as any one elses. Realistically, we are talking years.
Question: Why aren't there docks with the lightening connector?
Answer: Apple (as usual) kept the details secret. In addition, manufacturers won't produce docks until there is sufficient market demand.
Question: So what do I do differently now that the lightening connector has been unveiled?
Answer: Nothing, it's all good. If you really want to impress your special 1% of guests, purchase some converters and make them available to your guests.
