We don't believe so and have put together this update which puts the new lightening connector on the iPhone 5 into perspective.

Good news - current iPhone docking clock radios are exactly what your guests want, in fact, docks with the iPhone 5 connector don't exist.

Fact 1 There are 245 million iPhones with the 'common' 30 pin connector. Even if these people upgrade to an iPhone 5, they won't do it overnight.

Fact 2 There are 84 million iPads with the 'common' 30 Pin connector

Fact 3 There are 300 million iPods with the 'common' 30 Pin connector

Fact 4 There were 5 million iPhone 5s sold in the first 3 days and that's a lot but considerably less than forecasts of 6 to 10 million

Question: Should I replace my existing iPhone docks with new ones?
Answer: No, there are no docks with the lightening connector out there. More importantly more than 99% of people with an iDevice have the common 30 pin connector that current docks are designed for.

Question: What shall I do for the possible 1% of guests with an iPhone 5?

Answer: Provide them with a current dock, they will have will no doubt have an adapter because they would need that at home or the office any way.

Question: I am thinking of purchasing an iPhone dock, should I delay my purchase until an iPhone 5 dock is available?
Answer: No, 99% of people with an iDevice have one with the common 30 pin connector, even if they upgrade their phones, it won't be overnight.

Answer: You could purchase a dock that also has a USB charger. iPhone 5s along with all iDevices, Androids and other smart phones can charge via USB.

Question: When should we buy a dock with a lightening connector?

Answer: When the majority of guests are carrying iDevices that require a 9 pin lightening connector and there is a reliable dock from a reputable manufacturer.

Question: When will the majority of guests carrying iDevices have the 9 pin connector?

Answer: It took 4 years for iPhone sales to reach 122.5 million which is 50% of the current market. So far analysts have over predicted iPhone 5 sales so your guess is as good as any one elses. Realistically, we are talking years.

Question: Why aren't there docks with the lightening connector?

Answer: Apple (as usual) kept the details secret. In addition, manufacturers won't produce docks until there is sufficient market demand.

Question: So what do I do differently now that the lightening connector has been unveiled?

Answer: Nothing, it's all good. If you really want to impress your special 1% of guests, purchase some converters and make them available to your guests.
