No, a hotel environment is unique and a docking solution that may be great at home may not be suitable in a hotel environment.
Here are the top four Features we believe you should look out for..............
1. Will it work for ALL dockable iPods/iPhones and iPads?
I have lost count of how many types of iPods there are, make sure the docking is universal and guarantees to fit ALL dockable iPods/iPhones and iPads. A line-in jack is handy for non-dockable iPods, MP3 Players and Smart Phones.
Charging dockable devices should be achieved WITHOUT the need for slot in 'spacers'. If there are removable bits 'n' pieces, these will get lost rendering the docking ineffective for your guests. In fact it will detract from their stay as opposed to enhance it.
2. Will it charge the iPod/iPhone/iPad?
They have improved but, many of the early iPod/iPhone docking units could not charge the iPhone. More of a problem, some units put the iPhone into 'Plane mode' ie you could play music but calls would not be received. It is less of an issue today, however, do check that charging and full phone functionality will be maintained.
3. Does it charge iPads?
Many docking stations charge iPods and iPhones but only a few charge iPads. Apple® sold over 3 million of the new iPad in less than four days - "The new iPad is a blockbuster with three million sold - the strongest iPad launch yet," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. There are tens of millions of iPads out there so, yes, we believe you should provide iPad docking.
4. Does it have Hotel Features?
Hotel features include things like, a single day alarm, so one guest's 4am wake up will not affect the next guest in the room. I don't know about you, but I have forgotten to check more than once!
Other hotel features include locking the unit so guests cannot change the time or pre-set radio stations. Also capping the maximum volume to an acceptable level so as not to disturb the guest next door. These are highly appealing so a security lanyard or some other way to physically secure the iPod/iPhone/iPad Docking Clock Radio is a great idea.
