Human Trafficking

Trafficking of people is a modern day scourge that afflicts millions of people, particularly women and children, around the world resulting in extreme forms of sexual exploitation and forced labor. The Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) established the United States' efforts and leadership to combat the multi-billion dollar industry. Since then, the U.S. government has worked to prevent trafficking in persons; prosecute those who profit from it; and protect victims. Catholic Relief Services partners with U.S. government agencies and others to prevent trafficking and protect victims in more than 35 countries around the world.

Keep Housing Affordable - Oppose the Affordable Housing and Self-Sufficiency Act

The House of Representatives is considering the Affordable Housing and Self-Sufficiency Act of 2012 (no bill number assigned yet), which will increase the minimum rent of a household in Public Housing, receiving a housing voucher or in project-based Section 8 assisted households.

It would also expand and make permanent the "Moving to Work" (MTW) demonstration project that exempts owners from abiding by several key tenets of affordable housing law.

Please tell your Representative that you oppose this legislation.

Their SECOND CHANCE Supports Our Communities

Ayou member of Congress to fund the Second Chance Act

Both the House and the Senate are currently considering funding for the Second

Chance Act for FY 2013. This is a law that was passed in 2008 but needs to be funded every year. The funding supports grants to government agencies and nonprofit organizations to provide assistance in areas of employment, treatment, housing, mentoring and other services which help reduce recidivism. There are few jobs available to those returning from prison, particularly in the current environment. The need to support themselves and their families becomes a temptation to return to actions that sent them to prison.

Ask your members of Congress to support funding for the Second Chance Act.

TransForm, advocating world-class transportation and walkable communities

Tell the U.S. House to pass a bipartisan transportation bill now!

The U.S. Senate just passed a strong, truly bipartisan federal transportation bill that protects funds for transit, walking, and biking. But the U.S. House's highly contentious version of the bill, H.R. 7, which has yet to be passed, would eliminate all designated funding for transit, walking, and biking.

Help us send a message to the U.S. House to take up the strong Senate bill or dramatically improve H.R. 7 so it supports transportation choices now!
