The iron "manhole covers" being poured at New Mexico Highlands University
|
The Center of the City Project, which will mark the geographic center of Albuquerque in 1912 and in 2012 is also a celebration of the state's Centennial. The markers, designed by artist Yamilette Duarte of San Miguel, New Mexico, were poured in cast iron this past weekend at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, and will resemble manhole covers when they are installed at their respective locations. The Public Art Urban Enhancement Program is proud to collaborate with the NMHU Art Department and Foundry and keep the fabrication of this project local! Stay tuned for information about the dedication event in Albuquerque, scheduled for June 14th as well as a video documentary about the process and people involved in making this project a success.
