Picturing Albuquerque at Cleveland Middle School
 | | Outreach Coordinator Becky Holtzman with teachers from Cleveland Middle School |
On February 7th, Education and Outreach Coordinator Becky Holtzman spoke about the City's 1% for Public Art Program to students at Cleveland Middle School. Becky presented the slide show "Picturing Albuquerque," to accompany the Picturing America Program that three CMS teachers have been using in their classrooms. Art teacher Laura Parker, social studies teacher Robert Lazar, and school librarian Laurie Lacey collaborated to bring this National Endowment for the Humanities project to CMS, where teachers use a poster portfolio of artworks to foster appreciation of the history and character of America.
In the Albuquerque version, Becky presented public artworks as a way to look at our city's history, our relationship to the landscape, daily life, and creative expression in our community. "It is wonderful way to contribute a local component to the stellar Picturing America Program - thanks to the teachers at Cleveland Middle for providing us with the opportunity to participate!" says Becky.
