Downtown Arts and Cultural District Planning is Underway
The City of Albuquerque, in partnership with the Downtown Action Team and Creative ABQ is currently in the process of developing a cultural plan for downtown Albuquerque. This recently authorized Arts and Cultural District will promote the exceptional art and history of Albuquerque, provide resources to artists, and build partnerships for collaborative marketing and promotions.

Take a Downtown Public Art Walking Tour!
The Public Art and Urban Enhancement Program has just published a Downtown Walking Tour of Public Art. Print out the map, stroll through downtown and explore the city's public art collection.
The map, along with one for Tingley Beach and a Street Arts Mural Map from 516 Arts are available for download on our website. In the future, we hope to create tours and maps featuring other areas of city.
You will also soon be able to pick up hard copies of the map at the
Kimo Theatre and Creative ABQ. Enjoy your walk!

Creative ABQ Moves into New Digs

Creative ABQ has moved into their new location on the Fourth Street Mall, just South of Copper Ave. Executive Director Regina Chavez and Programs and Development Coordinator Julia Mandeville are excited to be in the new location, which will also serve as an Arts and Culture Information Center. Organizations, individuals and other arts and culture enterprises can drop off print materials for the center at the following times: 1:30 - 3:30p on Wednesday 1/26; 9:00 - 11:00a on Thursday 1/27; and 11:00a - 1:00p on Friday 1/28. Silver Gardens Apartments, Future Site of Public Art

A new public art project is proposed along two exterior walls of the Silver Gardens parking structure. Silver Gardens, a green affordable housing
project developed through a public-private partnership between Jonathan Rose Companies, the Supportive Housing Coalition and the City of Albuquerque, will achieve a LEED ® Platinum certification. Public art will be included along the Eastern and/or Southern facing exterior facades of the adjacent parking structure. The groundbreaking of Phase II of the housing project begins January 25th, 2011 and will also include a public art component after it is completed. Stay tuned for the Silver Gardens Project Prospectus, which should be made public in the next few weeks.

Finalists Chosen for Warehouse 508 Art Project
The Warehouse 508 Public Art Project Call was for an interior and/or exterior electronic/digital artwork that will be situated at the Warehouse 508 teen center in downtown Albuquerque. This artwork will serve as an access point to Warehouse 508, youth in Albuquerque, and the City of Albuquerque's Public Art Program. The Selection Committee has chosen three finalists. The final selection will be made this Spring. Stay tuned for updates!

Fractal Art is Expanding in Albuquerque

The Fractal Foundation, with funding from the Urban Enhancement Trust Fund, has been eagerly displaying fractal art on numerous billboards and facades all over Albuquerque. One of the fractals lives on a parking garage facade near the intersection of 3rd St. and Silver Ave. Three more have just been installed at Monte Vista Elementary in Nob Hill.
Come celebrate the unveiling of these fine fractals as well as the 80th birthday of the school on Monday January 31, from 9:15 to 10:15 AM.
