The 2012 Sustainability Summit is October 9th and 10th. The Summit workshop will be held in Lincoln, NE on Wednesday, October 10th at the University Nebraska East Campus. The Summit will be held in conjunction with WasteCap's 20th Anniversary Celebration Awards Luncheon also held at East Campus on Wednesday.

Lincoln Celebrates 3rd Place in National Bike Challenge

On Friday, September 7th, a celebration was held at Brewsky's Haymarket in Lincoln to commemorate riders that participated in the City's first national bike challenge. The "Get Up & Ride" national bike challenge began on May 1st and ended on August 31st. It focused on encouraging people to choose a bicycle for their everyday travels in place of a motor vehicle. Sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists, Kimberly Clark Corporation, Trek Bicycle Company, and Bikes Belong, the Challenge had a goal of 50,000 people recording over 10 million miles of bicycling this summer.

UNL Student Volunteer Collect 1,200 Pounds of Recyclables at Husker Tailgating

While more than 90,000 fans were watching or tailgating in and around Memorial Stadium during the Sept. 1 Huskers home football game against Southern Mississippi, volunteers were making sure all the tailgaters recycled. After contributing more than 70 hours for the effort Go Green for Big Red, the 31 volunteers -- all students -- were able to save some 1,200 pounds of recyclables (plastic, aluminum and bottles) from entering the landfill. Great news! Bellevue, Nebraska has been chosen to participate in the Recyclebank and SC Johnson Green Choices Recycling Challenge, a nationwide competition promote recycling.
