WasteCap News- 2012 Sustainability Summit Early Registration Discount!
| | The 2012 Sustainability Summit is October 9th and 10th. The Summit workshop will be held in Lincoln, NE on Wednesday, October 10th at the University Nebraska East Campus. The Summit will be held in conjunction with WasteCap's 20th Anniversary Celebration Awards Luncheon also held at East Campus on Wednesday. A ticket to the Summit includes a ticket to the luncheon! The Summit will feature our keynote speaker, Auden Schendler, Vice President of Sustainability at Aspen Skiing Company. There are also break out sessions with wonderful speakers highlighting the topics of Energy, Tools and Resources for Sustainability Planning/Tracking, Zero Waste, Employee Engagement, Green Certification, and Green Marketing/Branding.

WasteCap News- May Green Team Roundtables held in Norfolk, Omaha, and North Platte
| | June 20th Minden will have its first Green Team Rountable at Burchell's White Hill Farmhouse Inn. Click below to register! June 13th, a Green Team Roundtable was held in Lincoln at the Bluff Road Landfill.
May Green Team activities began in Norfolk on May 1st to the Chamber of Commerce's Green Council. On May 9th, RDG Planning and Design in Omaha hosted a Roundtable about commuter benefit programs. On May 16th and 17th, WasteCap staff traveled to North Platte to present information about forming green teams during two Rotary Club meetings and a FREE public "Green Drinks" event.

News - Lincoln Bicycle Commuter Challenge

"The Get Up & Ride Bicycle Challenge" encourages people to bike for transportation and recreation. It is open and free to anyone who lives in the Unites States or works for an organization with U.S. employees. Several communities across Nebraska are participating, and Lincoln is currently one of the top cities in the nation participating in this challenge. Prizes will be awarded nationally for teams and individual riders, and Lincoln and Omaha will hold celebrations with local awards in September as well.

WasteCap News - WasteCap Staff Compete in the Lincoln Commuter Bike Challenge
| | As of Friday, 6/8/2012, WasteCap staff has biked 257 miles as part of Endomondo's National Bike Challenge. By biking instead of driving, we've saved 235 pounds of CO2 so far and have save $119 in fuel and vehicle wear-and-tear. Additionally, according to the website message board, Lincoln is currently in 3rd place in this national biking challenge!

News- Nebraskans Throw Away $81 Million Annually

LINCOLN, NE - June 12, 2012
In 2010, Nebraskans disposed of more than two million tons of material in landfills. With an estimated average landfill disposal fee of $37/ton, taxpayers pay over $81 million annually to dispose of our trash. Many of the common materials in the waste stream, like paper, cardboard, hard plastic containers, tin cans, and aluminum cans have good, local recycling markets and carry commodity value for local recycling programs, businesses and recycling companies.

News- e-Scrap Grantees Hold Several Events this Spring

Under the direction and organization of Denise Trine, PrairieLand RC&D, in Northeast Nebraska, held four e-Scrap collection events this Spring. Starting with an event on March 31st in Pilger, two events on April 5th in Petersburg and Tilden, and finally at Clarkson, Nebraska on April 30th. One-hundred and twenty households were served at these mini-events, diverting an impressive 13,353 pounds of electronic equipment from the landfill.
