WasteCap News- Auden Schendler to be Keynote Speaker at WasteCap's Annual Sustainability Summit

WasteCap is thrilled to introduce our Keynote Speaker for our Annual Sustainability Summit. The Summit will be October 9th in Omaha and October 10th in Lincoln, watch for details in next month's newsletter.
Auden Schendler is Vice President of Sustainability at Aspen Skiing Company. He worked previously in corporate sustainability at Rocky Mountain Institute. Auden has testified to congress on the impacts of climate change and speaks widely on sustainability. His book Getting Green Done: Hard Truths from the Front Lines of the Sustainability Revolution was called "an antidote to greenwash" by NASA's James Hansen. He lives in Basalt, Colorado with his wife Ellen and their children Willa and Elias. Read the full story by clicking here.

The 20th Anniversary Sustainable Business Awards Luncheon will be held October 10, 2012 at the University of Nebraska Lincoln East Campus to recognize members for their environmental achievements. WasteCap is requesting award nominations in seven categories.

WasteCap News- WasteCap NE Welcomes Summer Intern | | Welcome Neil Tabor!
Neil Tabor, is WasteCap Nebraska's newest intern. Originally from Omaha, Neil is a senior majoring in Environmental Studies with an emphasis in Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. His interests extend through numerous elements of the environment and sustainability. On campus Neil serves as the President of the student organization Sustain UNL, a member of the student government Environmental Sustainability Committee, and the student chair on the UNL Bike Committee. Neil is excited to begin his work at WasteCap, researching resources catered to businesses, which will eventually be integrated on the WasteCap site as a hub for all things business sustainability. |
WasteCap News- May Green Team Roundtables held in Norfolk, Omaha, and North Platte

May Green Team activities began in Norfolk on May 1st. Julie Diegel gave a presentation on Green Teams at the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce's Green Council meeting.
On May 9th, RDG Planning and Design in Omaha hosted a Roundtable about commuter benefit programs.
On May 16th and 17th, WasteCap staff will travel to North Platte to present information about forming green teams during two Rotary Club meetings and offer a FREE public "Green Drinks" gathering the evening of May 16th at The Depot Restaurant. Read the full article by clicking here.

WasteCap News- Offering Free CFL Recycling Program to Nebraska Businesses

WasteCap Nebraska invites Nebraska businesses to join the Another Bright Idea network to recycle used Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) at no cost. By providing this free recycling service to employees, it demonstrates that reducing environmental impact is a priority in your company.

News - Lincoln Bicycle Commuter Challenge
| | In its first year, the Lincoln Bicycle Commuter Challenge is a local effort organized under the national Get Up & Ride National Bike Challenge to encourage people to bike more for transportation and recreation. Riders can register and begin tallying miles at any time during the Challenge, May 1 through August 31.

News- Grants Still Available for Electronic Waste Collection Events

Up to $8,000 is available to any community or organization, particularly "underserved" areas of Nebraska, for electronic waste collection events. A complete manual with instructions on how to run an event is available HERE. This is a turn-key operation for electronic waste collection events.

| | The Nebraska State Recycling Association has grant funds available now for municipalities, other government entities, non-profits and recycling companies who wish to purchase recycling equipment.

| | This is an extension of an existing Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program through Tomāto Tom�to - www.tomatotomato.org/csa/. The goal of the program is to make accessible fresh local produces people who may not otherwise have the ability to obtain such foods in their neighborhoods.

News- Omaha Garden for "New Urban Farmers"

New Omaha Garden Park (NOGP) is thrilled to announce its 40 acre community garden to local families and groups, making it the newest and largest Community garden in the Metro. Omaha including cities across the United States continue to recognize the growing benefits of urban agriculture.
