Greetings!

 

January is gone and February is just beginning. Here at WasteCap we have several events coming up soon! This newsletter includes new board members, a few member spotlights, and some articles we thought you would enjoy! We also included the standard, new and renewing members, paper prices, and upcoming events

WasteCap News - A Big Welcome to our New Board Members!

WasteCap Nebraska is proud to announce three new board members to our already amazing board!

Marty Hager
Marty "The Marlin" Hager has served as co-Owner and Account Manager (a title better known as "Chief Pond Officer") at the minnow PROJECT, a creative advertising agency in Lincoln, since 1999. A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Marty has spent his entire career in Lincoln with a strong background in commercial printing. Prior to co-founding the minnow PROJECT, Marty spent six years with Jacob North Company, where he was a sales representative and member of the Presidents Club, and QuebecorWorld for ten years. Marty's expertise in client relations and managerial experience has been key to the minnow PROJECT's continued success and growth over the past 13 years. He's also all about going green, a lifestyle spurred by his robust involvement in the Ecology Movement in the 70s at the ripe age of thirteen.

Tambra Williams
Tambra Williams is the Environmental Engineer at BD Medical in Columbus, Nebraska. She has a Master's degree in environmental health, is a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager and a Certified Safety Specialist. She has worked in the environmental field for more than 20 years, with experience in the government sector, heavy industrial manufacturing, pharmaceutical and medical manufacturing, and lab and clinical safety and environmental management. Tambra is a native Nebraskan with a passion for educating others about living an environmentally sustainable life.

Nate Maniktala
Nate Maniktala is a Vice President and a Principal of M.E. GROUP.  He leads a combination of technical and business consulting for the development and implementation of sustainable strategies into the operation, construction and/or design of buildings.  Drawing from his background in business management and 12 years of experience in the architectural engineering industry as a developer and consultant, Nate focuses on delivering the greatest net value to clients.  Nate is an active speaker and advocate for 'green building', advisor to numerous government agencies, and State Board member for the American Council of Engineering Companies.   He is supported by his lovely wife Jaya and two children Shaan and Nina.

Members In the News - Evelyn Bartlett, Sector Now 

There was a time when SectorNow's Evelyn Bartlett vowed she would never again live in Nebraska.

"I grew up in Waverly," Bartlett said. "I went to UNL and just basically bolted."

After graduating from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, she briefly touched down in San Diego before settling in Los Angeles. There, the small-town girl with big-city dreams found a job as an account coordinator at a small but growing advertising agency and began an unlikely love affair - with numbers - that would shape the rest of her life.

Member In the News - LES Sustainable Energy Program Incentives Are Back to Help Save You Money

program helps to fulfill LES' sustainability goal "To meet LES' five year projected demand growth with sustainable generation and demand reduction resources."

EPA Game Day Challenge Results & Appeal to UNL to Recycle Game-Day Plastics

 EPA Gameday Challenge totals are in! 

  • In Waste Minimization UNL ranked 2nd amongst Big 10 Schools, only behind Iowa. Also 2nd overall amongst Division 1 Schools and 8th overall out of 69 schools.
  • In Diversion Rate UNL ranked 2nd in the Big 10 behind OSU, 14th out of 48 Division Schools and 24th out of all 69 schools that entered this category.

Join Sustain UNL and numerous other Nebraskans in signing this petition to UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman. This petition asks the University to institute postgame recycling of all plastic materials left inside Memorial Stadium. News - Recycled Batteries - Where do they go?   

Modern electronics could not function without batteries, from sophisticated internal rechargeable cells to the single-use batteries in your emergency flashlight. Besides stored electrons, these batteries also contain complex compounds that can be harmful to the environment. Fortunately, many of these materials are also valuable enough to recover for use in remanufacturing.
