With the Sustainability Summit in October, WasteCap Nebraska has been very busy! This double issue of our newsletter has articles about new members, paper prices, as well as information about our upcoming projects and how you can get involved!

 

2011 Sustainability Summit Recap
With the whirlwind of the 2011 Sustainability Summit drawn to a close, WasteCap has finally had a chance to breathe, step back, and consider how the events went.  WasteCap was very happy to partner with the University of Nebraska - Omaha, our numerous and supportive sponsors, and all who attended the events to make Bob Willard's time in Nebraska a huge success.

Another Bright Idea for your business recycling program

WasteCap Nebraska is launching a new program to provide collection boxes for Compact Fluorescent Lamps in businesses.  An offshoot of Another Bright Idea, this program will provide your employees with a convenient drop off box for their burned-out lamps.

1,000 Bulb Recycling Challenge launches on America Recycles Day, November 15th

WasteCap Nebraska launches its 1000 Bulb Recycling Challenge on America Recycles Day, November 15, 2011 as part of its Another Bright Idea (ABI) program.  The challenge will run from November 15 through December 15 and aims to collect 1,000 used fluorescent bulbs, including Compact Fluorescent Bulbs (CFLs) at participating local retailers  across Nebraska.

WasteFinder Green App™ is based on WasteCap Nebraska's ten years of experience conducting business waste assessments.

Landfills still the most unpopular land development

In a recent article in Waste & Recycling News, a survey on land use ranked landfills at number one in the "most opposed development" category. More than 3 of 4 people surveyed opposed the building of landfills, outpacing power plants, quarries, casinos, and Wal-Marts. With so much public opposition, is it any wonder that municipalities across the country are looking at alternatives to the high-dollar investments needed to build new landfills?

Innovation and Sustainability
Examples of innovations that enhance corporate sustainability abound, but we don't always know about them because they are hidden in reports or simply forgotten over time. That's too bad, because inspiration is a great motivator. It's true that many innovations are but minor steps, but the point is that ingenuity has been used to cut waste, enhance reputations and improve profits. What has your company been doing lately?
