Greetings!
Best New Hockey Accessories for the 2010-11 Season?
A lot of innovation takes place in the hockey industry, as evidenced by many of the exhibitors at the recent Let's Play Hockey Show in Las Vegas. But even with this annual trade show, many new companies have a difficult time generating exposure for new accessories and new ideas. So we are asking HockeyVoice readers to share what you think are some of the best new accessories that have come into the market. Please send to HDA@NSGA.org. We will then share your suggestions anonymously in the next edition of the newsletter. |
Going Local with Google
More people search for businesses online than anywhere else and Google continues to be the number one online tool for people to find businesses. The company recognizes that many people who use the search engine want to physically visit the companies for which they are searching rather than immediately buy online. That is why Google Places was created. This tool helps the business that is looking for walk-in traffic. The best part is that the basic package is free. In spite of this fact, the tool continues to be very underutilized by small businesses based on research from Google.
The other nice thing about Places is the ability for people to rate your store, which provides many opportunities for good word of mouth to take place.
Even if you do not have a website, Google Places allows you to maintain an online presence. The listing can be enhanced by using the locally targeted Adwords Program. Visit www.google.com/places for more information. |
Debit Card Swipe Fee Reform being delayed by Debit Card Industry
It has been reported that the debit card industry is seeking to delay implementation of the new regulations that would require more reasonable debit card fees to reflect the actual costs incurred by banks in processing debit transactions. The new regulations include a recommendation that a flat fee of no more than 12 cents per transaction be applied universally. This would result in lowering current fees by almost 70%. |

Inaugural Hockey Day in America
The inaugural Hockey Day in America was held at Millennium Park in downtown Chicago on Sunday, February 20. The event was nationally televised on NBC between the four nationally televised NHL games. The event co-sponsored by USA Hockey, NBC television, the NHL and McDonalds was an opportunity for promotion of the sport, which HDA and its members support.
