| LIHI Endorses Proposition 1
 | | Rebecca Saldana of SAGE endorses Prop 1 |
At a press conference on October 4th, LIHI announced their endorsement of Propositon 1, which will appear on the November 8 ballot. Sharon Lee, Executive Director of LIHI, was joined by Tim Harris of Real Change, Rebecca Saldana of SAGE, Tony To of HomeSight, and others.
Prop 1 will give Seattle faster, more reliable transit service; repaired and repaved roads that work better for everyone; and new sidewalks, better crosswalks, and more family-friendly bike infrastructure. Prop 1 authorizes a $60 increase in vehicle licence fees, which would go into effect in 2012 and would expire after 10 years. In total, $204 million would be raised, with $100 million going towards public transit improvements, $60 million to repair and repave roads, and $44 million invested in pedestrian and bicycle related improvements. "Prop 1 is our opportunity to create safer and more vibrant communities for Seattle's families," said Sharon Lee.
This is our chance to create a better future for transportation in Seattle! Vote YES on November 8th! For more information on Prop 1, visit Streets for All Seattle.

The Home Depot Foundation announced a grant award of $250,000 to LIHI as a part of their "Celebration of Service" initiative to honor U.S. military veterans. LIHI will use the funds to refurbish 73 veteran's apartment units, including replacing appliances and flooring, painting, and remodeling bathrooms. LIHI also plans to build out a community room, children's play area, and space for a veteran's case manager. In addition to this generous financial contribution, Home Depot will provide a one-day volunteer blitz working with LIHI staff and residents at McDermott Place. "The Home Depot Foundation is committed to ensuring that every veteran has a safe place to call home, and the services provided by the Low Income Housing Institute are essential to fulfilling that goal," said Kelly Caffarelli, President of The Home Depot Foundation.

| Help Prevent Hunger at the Frye - Volunteer with LIHI!
The 234 unit Frye Apartments, LIHI's largest community, is located in the heart of Seattle's historic Pioneer Square neighborhood (223 Yesler Way). Many of our lowest income residents at this site need help accessing food. We are looking for volunteers to help operate two food programs: our weekly food giveaway, and a monthly food bank. If you are able to commit one afternoon per week or per month to help ensure our most vulnerable residents don't go hungry, contact Ania, our Volunteer Coordinator, at (206) 957-8035 or volunteer@lihi.org.
Check our our flickr page to see how you can get involved in LIHI!
