Mayor McGinn Visits The Bart Harvey

On April 21st, LIHI staff and board welcomed Mayor Mike McGinn for a tour of The Bart Harvey. Owned and operated by LIHI, The Bart Harvey includes 50 units for low-income seniors age 62 and over. It is located in Seattle's Cascade neighborhood close to the Cascade Community Gardens, REI, shopping and other amenities.

The Mayor enjoyed The Bart Harvey's award-winning rooftop garden and was impressed with the residents' P-Patch and the incredible views of Lake Union and the Space Needle.

Before the tour, Executive Director Sharon Lee showed the Mayor the dangerous traffic conditions at the intersection of Minor Avenue N. and Republican Street where cars race towards the freeway and our senior residents have no time to cross the street safely to get to the corner grocery store. Stop signs and a crosswalk are needed. The Mayor asked the City's Department of Transportation (SDOT) to look into the problem.

Holding up signs, The Bart Harvey residents attended the Mayor's Town Hall meeting that same morning to express their concern about pedestrian safety at the Minor and Republican intersection.
