Support Our Friends

Dear LIHI Friends,

We opened up space at the Frye Hotel to shelter homeless women during the snowstorm right before Thanksgiving. No one should be sleeping outside. No one should be without a home.

We hope you will include the Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) in your giving plan this holiday season.  This will help us provide 1,600 units of emergency, transitional and permanent housing for families and individuals in our community.  We house vulnerable people who would otherwise become homeless, including veterans, seniors, the mentally ill, women, youth and families with children.

In addition to the housing and supportive services we offer our residents, LIHI operates the Urban Rest Stop in downtown Seattle.  Over 30,000 homeless men, women and children have benefited from free hygiene services since it opened 10 years ago.  Being able to take a shower, brush one's teeth, put on clean clothes, and find work have enabled thousands of people to exit homelessness.  Please see the recent Seattle Times column on the Urban Rest Stop!

In Seattle's University District, we are constructing 62 new studio and one-bedroom units for homeless men, women and couples,  LIHI purchased two new sites this year.  At 20th and Jackson in the Central Area we propose to house low-income seniors, focusing on the growing numbers of homeless seniors.  The Ballard property will provide affordable homes for low-income families and individuals.  A second Urban Rest Stop is planned for the first floor since Ballard has a large population of homeless people including car campers.

Winter and the holidays can represent a stressful time for low-income and homeless families; the current tough economic conditions are making the season even more challenging. We invite you to make an annual gift to LIHI to serve our neediest neighbors in the community. You may also send in your contribution to:  LIHI, ATTN: Fund Development, 2407 First Avenue, Seattle, WA 98121.

Thank you for your support.  Our Warmest Wishes for a Wonderful Holiday Season to you and your family!

Peace,
