SEPTEMBER MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT: How to Get the Most from Behavior Based Interviewing

 Presented by Allan McKay, SPHR

Hiring employees is one of the most important functions that an organization performs. Interviewing candidates is a critical part of the hiring process for most organizations-where HR knowledge, skills, and experience are essential.

Behavior Based Interviewing (BBI) focuses on the interviewee's past performance.  By focusing on past performance, interviewers greatly increase their ability to predict whether a person will be the "top performer" their organization is seeking. One study found BBI to be 55 percent predictive of future on-the-job behavior while traditional interviewing was only 10 percent predictive.

Please join VSHRM on Tuesday, September 14 for Lunch at Bay Valley Conference Center & Resort.  Networking & Registration begins at 11:30 followed by lunch at 11:45.  The Behavioral Based Interviewing presentation will begin at 12:15 and end at 1:15.

Our speaker will discuss how to successfully use Behavior Based Interviewing to select and hire the best employees for your organization.

VSHRM members pay $20, guests pay $25, and students pay $10.  To avoid a $5 late registration fee, please send your RSVP to rsvp@vshrm.org by Thursday, September 9. Or, you can RSVP by visiting www.vshrm.org.  On-line payments are available.  For more detailed information click here: BBI Outline

VSHRM has an Economic Stimulus Package for You!

Our October breakfast meeting at SVSU will be offered to Members at the ½ price cost of only $10.00! (Students - Free and Guests - $20.00) This amazing value gets even better, October is National Diversity Month and so, in keeping with that, Kathy McCreedy of DiverseAbility LLC and Carolyn Newell of Michigan Rehabilitation Services will provide information and resources for hiring people with disabilities.

How often have we thought about increasing our diversity, wanting to be that employer of choice who really lives Equal Opportunity, but not knowing where to source these opportunities or what training resources are available? In addition to our speakers, who can help us with these questions, representatives from various agencies will be attending as well.

One more benefit, the Regional Interagency Coordination Committee will be providing grant money for the breakfast expenses, so VSHRM will donate all the proceeds from this meeting to a charitable organization!
