| News from St. James Service Club |
The Flea Market Drop-Off today
There are only 4 more Mondays left for Jackie Beaumont and her crew of volunteers to collect items for the 2012 Service Club Flea Market. This is such a worthy cause and to date the donations have been slow in coming. Please look around for items you no longer are using that could be sold at this event to raise money for scholarships for Brunswick County high school students and BCC nursing students. Consider donating working small appliances, sport items, linens, toys, kitchen dishes and utensils, tools, home decorations, or those gifts you received at Christmas that you haven't already re-gifted! Sentry Storage on 211 just East of the Regency/ Players St. James Gate is the drop-off location between 2:30 and 4:30 today and the next five Mondays.
New Event Coming-Save May 6th
Erin O'Malley, daughter of Ann and Pat O'Malley, will share her experience adapting a stage production to film. This new event will take place at Members Club on Sunday May 6th from 7-9PM. Watch for further details on ticket sales.
THE PURPLE BOWS ARE COMING...... ST. JAMES WILL WELCOME SPRING WITH A SEA OF PURPLE!
A special thanks to all of the St. James residents and property owners who have purchased purple bows in support of the American Cancer Society and patriotic bows in support of Operation At Ease. To date, over 1,550 purple bows and 1,500 patriotic bows have been sold. The purple bows will be attached to your mailboxes or other appropriate location between March 28 and March 31 by your neighborhood representative.
If you haven't ordered your bow or bows, there is still time. There will be a "Bow Drive-Thru" on Monday, April 2 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Members Club. Just come to the circle in front of the clubhouse, no need to park, and you can pay for your bow and receive it from the convenience of your car. There is a rain date of April 3, same time and place.
You may also put cash or a check ($10.00 for a Purple Bow or $18.00 for the "Purple/Patriotic Bow Special") made out to the St. James Service Club, Inc., in an envelope with your name, address and phone number and drop it off at the "Bow Drive-Thru" or leave it in the box at Susan Sturgill's home at 3126 Lakeside Commons Drive.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if 100% of the mailboxes in St. James had a purple bow attached!
Simply overwhelming!!!!!!!!

St. James P.R.I.D.E. Seeks Volunteers
Research shows that cleaner roadways have a several benefits: 1-people are less likely to throw things out of their car windows if the roadways are well-kept; 2-the perceived value of the community is increased (i.e., desirability of living there, home valuations, etc.); 3-less food garbage means fewer animals foraging and ending up as roadkill; and 4-reducing cigarette butt litter means less opportunity for accidental fires. Nature, your home and the environment are protected in all of these.

SJFD Welcomes New Members

Your St. James Fire Department is pleased to announce the acquisition of seven new members to its ranks. Five members have joined the fire side and two have joined the Emergency Medical Service.
Marty Perry and Jim Daly have graduated from a year's worth of training and have passed the North Carolina State qualifying tests for Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B). Neither gentleman has had any previous emergency medical experience.
Peter Braun, Ed Friedrich, Bob Jenkins, George Larson, and Cleve Murphy have joined the ranks of the fire fighters. Ed and Cleve have both had previous fire fighting experience but have been inactive for upwards of 15 years.
All seven gentlemen indicated they joined the SJFD because they wanted to take advantage of this opportunity to give back to their community and support it in the most substantial way they could find. They are very proud to have completed their respective training curricula and are pleased to now be ready to serve their community. They also expressed how pleased they were to find that the level of professionalism in both services was so high. They realized they were joining a very professional and dedicated group of ladies and gentlemen.
The next time you see any of these men, take the opportunity to congratulate them on their accomplishments and express how pleased you are to have them protecting your life and your property.
