On a cold day in February, 60 farmers and community members gathered to discuss the challenges to farming in our region.

It was a productive discussion...but it was only the first step toward maintaining a strong Ag sector in Montgomery County. We need to keep the conversation going.
MCA and partners have been busy implementing a number of ideas from February's summit, here are a few ... We heard: " A mentoring program between farmers would be really helpful to me as I start/expand my business."
We launched the Producer's Listserve , a place for producers to swap know-how.
We Heard: "It is just too expensive to acquire land in Montgomery County."
We created Land Link , a tool to connect new and existing farmers with land for long term lease or sale. We Heard: " Finding good labor is a real struggle."
We have been working with Manna Food Bank and local farmers to find ways that unemployed people can secure jobs on local farms and hope to work with a wide coalition of county organizations to launch a Labor Link service.
We Heard: "We need to have a continued dialouge between all the different farmers represented at the event."
And so... we hope you can join us for dinner next month to identify the work ahead!
