Valentine's Day is coming... Like it or not.
It's that time of the year where if you've been slacking all year in showing your love, here's your day of redemption. Or if you are someone who is able to shower your sweet partner with figurative rose petals throughout the year, here's your chance to turn it up a bit more. We would like you to know about two heart melting elixirs to share and a special present for your favorite beer drinker. To begin, Rosa Regale has a delicate bouquet of rose petals and offers sensuous flavors of fresh raspberries and strawberries. Its effervescence is softer than that of champagne, yet it yields a persistent and delicate pink froth. Its lively garnet color makes other sparklers pale in comparison. Served chilled and with a low alcohol content, it serves as the perfect partner throughout the entire meal, beginning as an elegant aperitif, moving to a savory appetizer and ending with a sweet dessert. No wine pairs better with chocolate than Rosa Regale. The bright fresh berry flavors complement the sweet velvet of the chocolate. Rosa Regale is a seductive red sparkler that turns any occasion into a celebration. And if you like chocolate... The Godiva Chocolate Liqueur is the route you will want to take. With attractive aromas of creamy milk chocolate; sweet on the palate; fine and elegantly flavored; an excellent liqueur in in the spirit of Belgium chocolate style, you will not disappoint your sweetheart with this! Not sure what to get your heart-throb? We have just the answer... The Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary 4 pack. We have been told, it's the ONLY place in the United States (Guess we can say the World, but we don't want to get all sassy about it...) that you are able to buy all four of the once-in-a-lifetime special blends. No sweetheart? That's cool, buy something nice for yourself this holiday! Supplies are SUPER limited so don't waste time getting here... |
King and Queen Member Wine
This month's royalty wine Queen Membership
2009 Zocker Grüner Veltliner
The fruit for the Zocker Grüner Veltliner was grown in the Niven family's estate Paragon Vineyard in the Edna Valley on California's Central Coast. Soils are generally made up of Diablo series, clay loam, rocky marine sediment, and volcanic remnants. In a few portions of the vineyard however, clay loam is more prominent, which allows for more water retention. This, along with the influence of the nearby Pacific Ocean and the extended growing season, makes the terroir here similar to areas in Austria where Grüner Veltliner reigns as the number one white varietal in the country. Finished Wine - Rich and round but with great acid structure, this wine is steely and has good minerality. It has a bit of an earthy characteristic, a note of white pepper, and flavors of ripe melon and fruit cocktail. 2007 Laurel Glen Vineyard Zinfandel "Za Zin" This very dark opaque purple colored Zin opens with an attractive boysenberry like bouquet with a hint of pepper. On the palate, the medium bodied, wine is nicely balanced and jammy. The flavor profile is a savory black raspberry with hints of pepper and spice. The finish is dry and shows mild tannins that are nicely prolonged. King Membership (the above two, plus...) Valentin Bianchi Elsa Malbec 2009 The classic Malbec aromas of ripe plum and violets are evident in the nose, with hints of vanilla. The beauty of the Malbec in Argentina is its ability to combine a rich, weighty mouth feel with a soft silkiness normally associated with lighter wines. Elsa Malbec takes the promise of the nose through to the palate, with pleasing fruit that mimics the aroma. The soft, supple palate leads to a lingering finish. 2009 Triennes Rose 87 Points - Wine Enthusiast A more weighty, mineral interpretation, with upfront red fruit that transitions to an edgy, pear-inflected palate with good concentration. Signs off with a final note of crushed raspberries. This one will last through the winter but should be drunk up before the summer of 2011. If you have considered trying our Royal Wine Program, this would be a great month to try it. You will find yourself not only enjoying the exciting wines we share each month, but also the additional savings with higher discounts! Go ahead, ask us about it. |
So...you like beer?
Even if you don't, you will want to try some of these new arrivals. Our beer collection continues to grow and we would like to share some of our new favorites. Rogue Nation continues to share with us new and exciting beers. These three arrived this pa st week and they will not last long. John John Hazelnut, this unique ale consists of Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar aged in Rogue's Hazelnut Spiced Rum barrels. Only $10.15. Double Mocha Porter is a huge mouthful of malt and hops, with notes of bitter rich chocolate. This porter is the creme de la creme. And you have the chance to get this for $13.95. Finally the American Amber is tawny in color, with a coffee aroma, tight head and a delicate roasted malt accent. Generous use of hops and a smooth finish. We are practically giving it to you at the low price of $7.55! We couldn't really have a beer section without announcing another amazing arrival from our friends at Sierra Nevada. This is a very limited release and we are honored to carry a few cases of it...but it won't last long. From their web page: "A group of hop-heads and publicans challenged our Beer Camp brewers to push the extremes of whole-cone hop brewing. The result is this: a 100 IBU, whole-cone hurricane of flavor. Simply put -Hoptimum: the biggest whole-cone IPA we have ever produced. Aggressively hopped, dry-hopped, AND torpedoed with our exclusive new hop varieties for ultra-intense flavors and aromas. Resinous 'new-school' and exclusive hop varieties carry the bold and aromatic nose. The flavor follows the aroma with layers of aggressive hoppiness, featuring notes of grapefruit rind, rose, lilac, cedar, and tropical fruit-all culminating in a dry and lasting finish." Feeling lucky, Punk? Ok, so you don't have to carry around .357 (and honestly, we prefer you didn't...) to feel like Clint Eastwood. Instead, swing by the store and pick up a six pack of the Punk IPA. This 5.6% trans-atlantic fusion IPA is light golden in color with tropical fruits and light caramel on the nose. The palate soon becomes assertive and resinous with the New Zealand hops balanced by the biscuit malt. The finish is aggressive and dry with the hops emerging over the warming alcohol. This fresh, full flavor natural beer is our tribute to the classic IPAs of yester-year. The post modern twist is the addition of amazing fruity hops giving an explosion of tropical fruit flavours and a sharp bitter finish.
Also from BrewDog, we have only a few Paradox Imperial Stouts left! This unique brew is whiskey cask aged imperial stout. The crazy kids at Brew Dog have given a little time line of how this is made:
The Life and Times of a BrewDog Whisky Cask
~Little acorn into a mighty oak tree, really long ago
~Oak tree turned into a cask by a skilled human
~Cask is then used to mature American Bourbon, releasing wonderful flavours from the oak cask then undertakes a perilous marine voyage across the Atlantic, narrowly escaping the clutches of storms, giant squid and pirates.
~Safely at the Scottish distillery it is used to mature the finest Whisky, adding depth and character to the flavours inculcated in the oak.
~Cask arrives at BrewDog where we fill it with our Imperial Stout. The ageing process infuses all the Whisky flavours and emblazons the casks journey deep into our smooth robust stout, resulting in an unrivalled taste adventure for the lucky human who gets their paws on the finished masterpiece.
