Lighthouse Delicatessen!
We are open from 10-4pm everyday except Tuesday.
Well it's finally open. We could not be happier that we now have the opportunity to share more of our passion with all of you. We've been settling into a nice routine, getting better and quicker every day.
Many of you have offered wonderful suggestions and we are listening.
First, we have started adding the option of a free side salad when you eat there, which includes eating at our outside tables! We've had many people come in and ask for take-out menus. Because we are a new business and we are asking our distributors to bring products to the Big Island they never have before, our menu has changed almost daily. We wouldn't want you to come down with an order and be sad we don't have something that day. However, we are close to having a permanent menu! We are currently unable to take call-in orders.
Finally, we've been asked for breakfast... If you missed Brunch on Sunday...sorry, it was delicious but don't fret, there will be more, we promise that. We offered a few different choices on Eggs Benedict, traditional, Florentine, Pastrami, and Salmon; French toast, Flown-in New York Bagels, bacon, sausage and yummy quiches! The turn-out was fantastic and we thank everyone who came in.
Our next one will be Nov. 14th. Next week, the 7th, we will be closed for our Kickball day at King Kamehameha Park from 11-4, more information below in the Calendar of Events!
We are also happy to let you know about the private dinner option at Lighthouse Delicatessen. At night, the entire deli can be available for you and your friends to have a fun dinner with top-quality service. We put the curtains up, cover the cooler, the table cloths come out, candles are lite and suddenly you're in the middle of special place. Working with you, we create a menu that is affordable and to your liking. The dinner is served family-style just like at home, but we will do the dishes! We've had a few dinners already and the response has been incredibly positive. From 2 people to 16, it's the perfect place to have dinner either when visitors are on Island or just family or some close friends from around town. Come into the deli to find out more in formation and we look forward to working with you.
Of course, Lighthouse Liquors has all you need in the way of beer, spirits, wines and champagnes!
Book now for the holidays...!!

These just in... Two new arrivals from Sierra Nevada
We're proud to announce the arrival of the latest from the folks at Sierra Nevada. This seasons Northern Harvest has pulled into port and once again, it is a tasty addition to our collection of fine beers. They also delivered the Estate special, where the hops and barley are grown on Sierra Nevada's property. We thought we'd share what the brewers thought about their special seasonal beers:
Harvest Ale
The cornerstone of our Harvest series is the beer that started the modern-day fresh hop ale phenomenon in America, our original Harvest Ale.
Created in 1996, Harvest Ale features Cascade and Centennial hops from the Yakima Valley in Eastern Washington. These hops are harvested and shipped as "wet" un-dried hops-the same day they are picked-to our brewery in Chico where our brewers eagerly wait to get them into the brew kettle while their oils and resins are still at their peak. Estate Ale from Sierra Nevada
Estate Ale is one of the world's only estate-made beers, brewed with 100% all-natural, hops and barley grown on-site at the brewery in Chico, CA. Inspired by the renowned winemaking region of its Napa and Sonoma neighbors, Sierra Nevada is the first brewery to dev elop its own terroir. This beer is brewed with ingredients that reflect the flavors of the environment and the seasonal rhythms of nature. The wine industry is fond of speaking about the individual flavor characteristics that it takes from its environment. This terroir is present in all growing things that are tended with passion and care. The environment that builds flavor is more than simply the soil or the climate: it is also the passion and commitment of the grower. Sierra Nevada's location near the convergence of the mighty Cascade and Sierra Nevada mountain ranges-and its roots in the heart of California's fertile Central Valley-offer an environment unique in the world. This volcanic backdrop and productive earth each lend character to the water, hops, barley, and yeast. Estate Ale is the product of years of tending the soil, building an environment around the brewery, and even more years of planning. It began in 2003, with the planting of the first experimental hop yard in the field adjacent to the brewery. Over the years the field grew, and the hops along with it. The quality improved: the rhythm of planting, tending, and harvesting was established. In 2008, the brewery released Chico Estate Harvest Ale for the first time, utilizing the fresh-green flavors of these homegrown hops. The brewery was so pleased with the result that it decided to take it further than anyone else and produce a 100% estate-made beer.

Marci shares her experience at the Sake Tasting...
A different type of "wine" tasting...
On Tuesday October we hosted our first Sake Tasting, and our friend Craig Tabandera from World Sake Imports was in the house sampling the four varieties we carry, while educating us about the ingredients, process, and different levels of sake. Craig held court with a rapt audience...until the rabid crowd couldn't wait to taste. So we did! Craig started us off with the Okuden Kantsukuri (the "Mirror of Truth"), which is considered a more familiar sake to most folks. Smooth at the first sip, it displays a range of subtle organic flavors, with a pleasant natural sweetness. This is a nice sake to have with tempura, tofu, and marinated pork or chicken dishes. The Junmai Gingo was the next sake on the list. Called "Trapeza", which was delicate and light - a graceful, refined sake. I've enjoyed this kind of sake most often because it goes well with a personal addiction of mine - sushi & sashimi. Mmmm. I was in heaven at this point in the tasting, and only halfway through the samples. Trying to ignore the sudden hankering I had for a rainbow roll, I eagerly held my glass out for the next sake in line: the Yamahai Daiginjo. The name, "Chrysanthemum Meadow:" paints a great picture, tasting of honey and herbs at the first sip. Craig claims that no other Japanese sake tastes like this: supple and racy and totally drinkable over a long period of time. This enticing elixir goes especially well with cold dishes and salads. And finally, the princess of the parade - a limited edition Arabashiri called the "First Run", which had us all swooning and demanding more. The aroma was different than the others and possessed a fragrant, fresh, springlike taste - an exploding flavor considered to be the sake connoisseur's delight. As an obvious non-expert, I was still appreciating the First Run as if poured from the holy grail, trying to behave gracefully and hide my new greed, but it was too late - I was fantasizing about a fridgeful of this stuff. If I were Indy in that cave at the end of Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade, I would've hoped the old fella guarding the grail had poured this particular sake into the wooden cup instead of some silly healing water. That's how I would've written that scene. More Arabashiri, please, Mr. Grail Knight!

King and Queen Membership Wines Are Ready
If you are a King or Queen member, we are happy to tell you that your monthly wines are in! Hopefully you received the last email we sent you a while back - but please let us know if you didn't.
If you are not a King or Queen member, do you realize what you're missing out on? First of all, the 10% and 7.5% discounts, respectively, on all your wine, beer and liquor purchases. That's pretty sweet but what's even better are the wines you get each month. As a Queen member you get a red and white wine which are valued at more than the cost of your monthly membership fee. A King member gets those two wines...plus two more, with the King fee (not a king's ransom...) which is less than the cost of those four wines.
So if you like saving money and tasting new and unique wines only available to you for the month, ask us about how to sign up! Oh did we mention you get a t-shirt or two (Queen and King) when you sign up!?

Dogfish Head Beer Campaign
Time to put on the activist shirt!!
We are making a difference... The Dogfish Head folks have acknowledged our email campaign and are working toward bringing their tasty beers to the Big Island. But we are not done with our campaign. There are some things in life worth working hard for and this is high on our list. If case you didn't read about it over the past few months, we are campaigning Dogfish Head Beer to get their ridiculously great beer up to Lighthouse Liquors (and the state of Hawaii...have to share the Aloha...)
Here's where you come in... We humbly ask that you send an email to The Cool People at Dogfish Head and tell them you would like to see this amazing beer on our amazing island. The email doesn't have to be long, nor even grammatically correct, but just state that the Big Island wants this beer and Lighthouse Liquors will carry it for them!
Won't it be fun, when you buy your first 6-pack and can think, I helped get this here!!! Send that email today...and tomorrow, and the next day and the next day...
