That's because we have jumped through what seems to be the last remaining obstacle in opening Lighthouse Delicatessen!! That's right, VERY soon you can begin to enjoy the meats, cheeses, salads, pretzels, cold beer and yummy wine, and of course delicious sandwiches we will be offering. Chris writes about all that's going on just below, so keep reading. Also in the issue, Marci and Mary Beth share with you what has just recently come in and you'll want to be sure to take notes. WHEW! We've finally gotten the Green Light! Our light shines brighter at the end of the tunnel! Cleaning up and other preparations will take a week or so...and we will open with a soft menu and build up through October...and will be in full swing during the holiday season. We are especially excited and welcome all of your requests and questions on our Facebook page. Thank you for your patience and enthusiasm while we smooth out the road and round the edges.
Our hours will be 10am-4pm everyday but Tuesday (we'll be closed). After 4pm we will be available for private events or just dinner with friends. Call 889 5757 for more information. Let us do the dishes! Jumping for joy... Chris

Marci and Mary Beth share their latest loves!
Hooked!
I enjoy white wines, and I loooove Rieslings. We offer a few tasty labels but have somehow never carried an actual German Riesling...until now.
Hooked! Appropriately named because, well, it's what I now am. Yes, Hooked. From the Nahe region, in Germany, - tasting of green apple, pear and white peach, along with mineral notes and a refreshing acidity. It's always a deliciously cool choice on a warm Hawaiian day. I've enjoyed a glass on its own but it goes great with seafood, poultry, salads or pork. An excellent value, a fun label - it's a perfect bottle to bring to a dinner, or for a night with the girls. Betcha you'll soon be Hooked!
Cheers! Marci
Special Attention Beer Fanatics! The wait is almost over! On October 17th in this fair year of 2010, the 21st Birthday Reserve of Deschutes Black Butte XXI will finally reach its best after date! Brewed with care and designed to age in the bottle, this delectable porter with chocolate beans and coffee also did time in whiskey barrels before it arrived in our little corner of the world. Hurry in because right now there are only 13 bottles left. And you'll have to ask for it, this guy won't be around long enough to find a home in our cooler windows! Directly from the Deschutes Brewery: A Tribute to Black Butte Porter This masterpiece is a tribute to Black Butte Porter, the revolutionary Deschutes Brewery beer that has excited beer enthusiasts since 1988. This special Reserve Series release is a colossal version of Black Butte Porter. Our brewers enhanced Black Butte XXI by adding some Theo's Chocolate cocoa nibs from Seattle, dry-hopping it with 100 pounds of Bellatazza's locally roasted coffee, and then aging a portion of it in Stranahan's Colorado whiskey barrels. These regional partners provided quality artisan ingredients that give this commemorative beer a truly handcrafted complexity.
Have Fun! MB

If you live in Kohala and don't know that there is Ultimate Frisbee is happening every Monday night in the Park, well, you're missing out. If you have played on Monday you'll know what fun it is!
This year, there is a Hat Tournament which follows a annual co-ed frisbee tournament on Oahu. Each year they do it on a different island and this year, it's here on the Big Island. Even better...it's up here at Kamehameha Park. For more information you can go directly to their web page or here is the Flyer for this tournament.
This tournament is open to all, and what a great chance to have Homefield advantage, we know how to throw in the wind...

Inexpensive Wines are different than Cheap Wines
When someone comes into the store and asks if we have any cheap wines, I often cringe a little. I tell them we don't carry cheap wines, but we do have plenty of inexpensive ones and we go to work to find them something that they are looking for.
Over the past few months, we've been tasting and selecting wines which are unique and not necessarily available at the big super markets. Doing all these tas tings, and it IS hard work, has allowed us to find some real gems and great deals. Some of these names include San Greal Red Supper Wine, Vinum Chardonnay, Nugan Cabernet Sauvignon, Hooked Reisling, and Radog Pinot Noir. These are all delicious wines under $2 0! We have also some found some rare deals like the Tudor Pinot Noir Reserve for only $23...which is a great deal and won't last long. Also the BearBoat Pinot is back in...mmmmmmm.
We just wanted to let you know that we are always looking out for our customers to get you the best prices on impressive wines. We try them all, the good, the bad and even the ugly in our commitment to you. We are always looking for new wines so if you have tasted something that you would like to see us carry, just ask, and we'll do the best we can.
Finally, with the deli opening soon, we will be starting to host wine dinners at night. We will notify you via these newsletters about these amazing evenings and hope you will be able to join us. We will also be offering private dinners for you and your friends. All you need to do is call, 889-5757 and we will help put together a very special evening for you and your friends or family.
We look forward to seeing you soon in the wine section, and remember, a little wine makes you feel better! Cheers Bobby

Dogfish Head Beer Campaign
Time to put on the activist shirt!!
We are still at it. There are some things in life worth working hard for and this is high on our list. If case you didn't hear about it last month, we are campaigning Dogfish Head Beer to get their ridiculously great beer up to Lighthouse Liquors (and the state of Hawaii...have to share the Aloha...)
Here's where you come in... We humbly ask that you send an email to The Cool People at Dogfish Head and tell them you would like to see this amazing beer on our amazing island. The email doesn't have to be long, nor even grammatically correct, but just state that the Big Island wants this beer and Lighthouse Liquors will carry it for them!
Won't it be fun, when you buy your first 6-pack and can think, I helped get this here!!! Send that email today...and tomorrow, and the next day and the next day...

Did You Know...?
Random Tidbits...
* Native Americans never actually ate turkey; killing such a timid bird was thought to indicate laziness.
* In Bavaria, beer isn't considered an alcoholic drink but rather a staple food.
* The word samba means 'to rub navels together'
* The man who invented the toilet had the last name of Crapper. hence, the toilet was called the crapper.
* In 18 months 2 rats can have more than 2 million descendants... yikes!
*And Finally... The Big Island is Hawaii's largest at 4,038 square miles. It is twice the size of all other Hawaiian Islands combined and from east to west Hawaii is the widest state in the United States.
