Member Exclusive Offer
Here's a chance to make sure you get that special beer or wine...
As we sit around our meetings on Sunday mornings, one of our topics of discussion is always, "How can we make this experience even better for our members?" After some brainstorming, we realized a new step in our member program.
We've heard the sighs of sadness when you come in and see that the slot where that special seasonal beer was is now filled with something else. "Don't tell me you're OUT of....!?"
So we decided to do something about that. We will be offering you, our fantastic members, an opportunity to secure particular cases of wine or beer before they even arrive on the Island. What's even better, at a CrAzY member discounted price!
With the holidays coming, we realize that you want to be well-stocked and prepared. What better way to do this then to secure a case of the special beer, wine, or Champagne?
As you know, we will always order that certain case for you if you ask. Now in addition to that, we'll be sharing with you some of the designated specials and discounts which will be available to you before they come to our store. How cool is that? We thought so too.
So let's get right to it... this weeks special is a brilliant new wine called Tradition.
We have this wine exclusively - it is nowhere else on the Big Island!! Tradition 2004, Gordon Brothers Winery Suggested Retail Price: $38.00 Lighthouse pre-order Memebership price: $26.50 ESTATE GROWN - Columbia Valley · COMPOSITION: 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and 5% Syrah - all grapes are Estate Grown · pH: 3.80 · TA: 0.63g / 100 ml · ALCOHOL: 13.5% · PRODUCTION: 922 six-paks Notes on the 2004 Vintage Our moderate microclimate on the Snake River gave us some great fruit to work with in 2004. Harvest was early for the season as our crop load for this vintage was very small due to the harsh winter of 2003. Nevertheless, the quality of the fruit was superior and flavors were very concentrated. Winemaker Comments Dark Ruby in color, this wine displays multiple aromas of cassis, spice, cocoa powder, dark berries, coffee and a touch of Worcestershire sauce. Lush, jammy, blackberry fruitiness is noticed immediately. This combines with vanilla, cranberry and cherry flavors. The tannins are fine grained, giving this wine a supple, elegant mouth-feel. A lingering finish of black cherry, toasted, sweet oak and a hint of coconut make this wine refined and generous. |

This just in!!
Marci delivers the news on what's new in the store!
While our frequent visitors are always quick to notice the arrival of new products, the Lighthouse Gang is excited about a few in particular:
Wild Blue Premium Blueberry Lager - we responded to many requests to carry this (literally) colorful beer and we are so glad about it! Brewed with a blend of German hops from the Hallertau region in Bavaria and classic Aroma hops from the Willamette Valley in the Pacific Northwest, this tart & tangy fruit-infused lager deserves to be poured into a tall glass in order to appreciate the bright reddish-purple award-winner. The Lighthouse Gang passed a glass around in order to see for ourselves what the fuss was all about. Eyebrows arched and mmmmmmms were heard all around as even the skeptic boys were impressed.
Lost Coast Brewery - Mary Beth has been fighting for your beer-drinking rights and we've finally been able to get a hold of three groovy new brewskis! We're big fans of Barbara & Wendy - two gals from Humboldt whose years of experimental home brewing have resulted in some of our favorite new beers - we now carry Downtown Brown - a smooth, full-bodied nut brown ale, Great White - an unfiltered, light citrusy beer that goes great with spicy food, and Alleycat Amber - a full-flavored ale made with roasted caramel malt. Hurry and get a six-back of your own before I buy the rest. I mean it. The Germans are well-represented in our store, but there are two new arrivals we want to brag about: one being Scheider Weisse Hefe-Weizen's "The Original" - a complex, genuine Bavarian wheat beer that goes great with hearty food, created according to the brewery founder's original recipe dating back to 1872. We're also really proud to welcome Schneider & Sohn Aventinus, a highly-respected wheat doppelbock, generally considered to be a classic - hints of chocolate, spice, even banana with a yeasty bitterness in the finish.
You better come in for these soon because hefeweizens are of my favorite beers, and I might snag 'em all as well. And yes, I'll make room in the fridge, don't you worry.
Cheers! Marci

Master Mixologist Shares
Xavier shares some of his delicious cocktail recipes...
In case you haven't made it into the store recently, we would like to take a moment to introduce the newest member of the Lighthouse Liquor Crew, Xaiver Byrne (sadly no relation to Talking Heads rocker, David Byrne, but that's ok...)

He recently moved to this beautiful small piece of heaven to raise his two young girls Sydney and Avery. We could not be happier to have such a specialist on board.
Xavier will regularly share some fun drinks with you to try at home and here are the first suggestions...
Chocolate martini: 2 oz of Godiva dark choc liq 1 oz Stoli vanilla vodka 2 oz cream or milk your preference All shaken over ice and strained into martini glass. For the ladies out there!
Tropical sunset: 1 oz Three Olives mango vodka 1 oz Cruzan coconut rum 5 oz pinneapple juice Slash grenadine Served over ice Tastes good for the ladies but strong enough for a man
The fun party shot Lunchbox: 1/2 glass of a light beer 2 oz of orange juice 1 shot of amaretto Mix beer and OJ in your glass drop the shot of Amaretto, then Chug Chug Chug!!!!!!!!
Just a few drinks to try at home. Any questions on the drinks or if you would like other suggestions, come down and see Xavier at Lighthouse Liquors. He's looking forward to meeting all of you.

A note from Rick...
Thoughts on the future...
Greetings from lovely downtown Hawi. Where has the time gone? With the summer waning and Lighthouse Liquors first anniversary on the horizon, many of you have naturally asked the question; "When the #*%@! is the deli going to open?"
The equipment in and working, recipes tested and all county inspections...pending, we are ready to go. It's just a matter of jumping through a couple of final hoops set up for us by The Man. Rest assured, we will be bringing you delicious meats, cheeses, salads and sammies as soon as humanly possible. Big fat mahalos for your continued support and patience.
In conclusion, I'd like to heap kudos on Bobby for his recent trip to New Zealand with the express purpose of releasing a bottle of the Sierra Nevada Southern Harvest back into the wild in its native land. A truly selfless deed - well done sir, well done. Right then...back to work Rick.

Dogfish Head Beer Campaign
Time to put on the activist shirt!!
We are still at it. There are some things in life worth working hard for and this is high on our list. If case you didn't hear about it last month, we are campaigning Dogfish Head Beer to get their ridiculously great beer up to Lighthouse Liquors (and the state of Hawaii...have to share the Aloha...)
Here's where you come in... We humbly ask that you send an email to The Cool People at Dogfish Head and tell them you would like to see this amazing beer on our amazing island. The email doesn't have to be long, nor even grammatically correct, but just state that the Big Island wants this beer and Lighthouse Liquors will carry it for them!
Won't it be fun, when you buy your first 6-pack and can think, I helped get this here!!! Send that email today...and tomorrow, and the next day and the next day...

Did You Know...?
Random Tidbits...
* If you stop getting thirsty, you need to drink more water. For when a human body is dehydrated, its thirst mechanism shuts off.
* The average person who stops smoking requires one hour less sleep a night.
* The owl is the only bird to drop its upper eyelid to wink. All other birds raise their lower eyelids.
* The first Harley Davidson motorcycle was built in 1903, and used a tomato can for a carburetor.
* It cost 7 million dollars to build the Titanic and 200 million to make a film about it.
*And Finally... two animal rights protesters were protesting at the cruelty of sending pigs to a slaughterhouse in Bonn. Suddenly the pigs, all two thousand of them, escaped through a broken fence and stampeded, trampling the two hapless protesters to death.
