As sunset darkens the sky Venus & Mars prepare to set in the west as Jupiter climbs higher out of the eastern horizon.

Venus & Mars appear low above the west-southwest horizon at dusk. Venus sets around 8:15 PM followed by Mars around 8:30 PM on September 23rd. Venus will disappear from our evening sky around October 14th; she sets around 7:00 PM this night but is bright enough to shine through the early twilight.  Mars remains visible throughout October and sets around 7:15 PM on Halloween.

Jupiter is visible above the eastern horizon at sunset and remains visible as travels across the night sky until morning.  On September 23rd, Jupiter sets around 9:00 AM.  At the end of October Jupiter sets around 4:00 AM.

Mercury is visible in the morning sky until October 5th.

On September 23rd, Mercury rises in the east around 6:00 AM. On October 5th, Mercury rises around 6:45 AM and after that it will be difficult to spot Mercury amid the glow of daybreak.

Saturn becomes visible in the morning sky on October 17th. Look for the ringed planet nearly due east between 6:30 and dawn.

Astrologers Behaving normally, while within, the flame of madness burns bright. These words are derived from a well-known quote from that wonderful author and thinker, Paul Quelho. They describe the life of an astrologer in the modern world. They are also an encouragement to offer to our clients. How can we live out this dilemma in our lives as astrologers? What do our individual charts tell us about our own "madly-normal" paths, and how to make it happen? How do we help our clients, who have fallen onto the extreme end of either side of this seesaw?

Dear Friends,

On Monday September 27th, I will be giving a talk on Signs of the Times & Humanity's Evolutionary Path at the Lake County Astrological Association in Willoughby Hills, OH.  I've been preparing my material for this over the past month that includes a look at the prior two times in history when the synodic cycles of Pluto, Uranus & Saturn converged simultaneously as we are currently experiencing. I'll be drawing some parallels from events in the early 1930's and mid 1960's to what is happening now. From there I will weave together an unfolding story of the evolution of humanity and together we'll speculate what it all means for the collective at this particular stage.  Just like we look at patterns in our own life to figure out what we are supposed to be learning, what we need to let go of, what we need to cultivate, we'll be looking at the current collective issues in that light.  I'll also be using the charts of the United States and a few other countries to gather a global sense of this collective calling that is upon us at this time. I'm very excited about giving this lecture and hope to see many of you there. If you cannot attend, it will be recorded and available for purchase from AC Tapes and my website.

I've also been busy with the Breaking Down the Borders internet conference that the International Academy of Astrology is putting on in November. Please go to the website and check out the incredible line up of international speakers we have with a myriad of interesting and cutting edge topics.

If you've noticed that super bright star near the moon these past two nights, it is actually Jupiter. The moon's distance from Juipter will increase each night. Saturn is the last planet we can see with the naked eye. However this is a great time to locate Uranus if you have good binoculars or a telescope because Uranus lies is close by Jupiter in the sky. If you locate Uranus email me or let me know on Facebook. I'd love to hear your sky watching stories!

Have a great fall everyone! Delight in the sound of the leaves crackling under your feet and the smells of pumpkin and apple cinnamon desserts wafting through the air. Of course you might have to initiate the latter experience yourself.

Cheers!
Julene

The Harvest Moon Occurs with the Autumnal Equinox This Year
news pic  The sun enters Libra when it reaches the western intersection of the Ecliptic Plane and Celestial Equator on Wednesday September 22, 2010 at 11:09 PM Eastern Daylight Time.  This is followed by a Full Moon entering Aries at the eastern intersection of the Ecliptic Plane and Celestial Equator on Thursday September 23rd at 5:17 AM.  EDT.  This is the Harvest Moon. There is a lot of hype about the rarity of the Harvest Moon occurring so closely to the autumnal equinox, but it's not really that rare in the grand scheme of time. In fact a full moon coincides with the autumnal equinox every nineteen years. The last time this occurred was in 1991 and it will happen again in 2029.  As with the convergence of any two cycles, there is a perfectly logical mathematical explanation behind this. Every 365.25 days the Sun reaches the western intersection of the Ecliptic Plane and the Celestial Equator.  Every 29.5 days there is a Full Moon.  It takes 19 years for these cycles to realign and converge again.

I'll break it down for the math lovers. Those who are not math friendly should just skip over this part. :)
  •  365.25 days in a year (or from one autumnal equinox to the next) X 19 years = 6,939.75 days.
  •  6,939.75 / 29.5 days in a synodic lunar cycle (or from one full moon to the next)  = 235.25 synodic lunar cycles
  • Now there are 12.38 synodic lunar cycles in a year (365.25 / 29.5 = 12.38)
  •  235.25 / 12.38 = 19.002 years.

So as you see, every 19 years the seasonal cycle of the autumnal equinox and the synodic cycle of the full moon converge. The big deal all the hype is centering around this year is that the hours of occurrence between the autumn equinox and harvest moon are especially close.  But are they really?  Let's examine that. This year there is a little over a six hour difference.  In 1991 it was just under 10 hour difference, so yes it is closer than last time. However, prior to that in 1972 there was a five and half hour difference. In 1953, a four hour difference, but the Moon was in the last degree of Pisces occurring slightly before the equinox.  The biggest deal probably will be in 2029, when will be little over a one hour difference between the autumnal equinox and the Full Moon that again occurs in the last degree of Pisces instead of the first degree of Aries.

The Sign of Libra September 22 - October 23

 lecture pic

Like all signs associated with heralding in a new season, Libra is a cardinal sign. Cardinal signs are the initiators of the zodiac. Cardinal energy is excellent for starting things but it does not have much follow through. This is why the fixed signs follow cardinal, to give staying power and fixity of purpose to what is created or begun with cardinal.  Evidence that you are living or working with a person whose dominate mode of operation is cardinal is all the started projects going on at once. There is great deal of initiative power, but cardinal signs get bored with the follow through, it's not where their niche is. Cardinal signs like to be on the go. Their approach is to dive right in and get things rolling. There is no stagnation in cardinal energy.

Each cardinal sign has its own element and Libra's is air.  Air signs conceptualize and exchange information and ideas. They are the thinkers and relaters of the zodiac with the ability to detach and look at things as objectively as possible, including perspectives of others. Just think of all the things that can be communicated through the medium of air. In addition to conversation, there are sounds and smells. Air is often a bit abstract during the conceptualization process until the ideas take form. When we put cardinal and air together we get the essence of Libra who reserves the right gather facts, opinions, perspectives, and to think things over before committing themselves to starting something.

Libra's glyph is like the setting sun, and its symbol is the scales of balance. Libra has a correlation with the 7th house of relationships. The 7th house includes our marriage and business partner, our best friend, and also our open enemies. It is no coincidence that the scales of justice are seen in most court rooms. Since the 7th house is the polarity to the 1st house of self, it tells us that our relationships with others provide us with insight into our self. In the simplest terms Libra and the 7th house are about the way we balance our self with others and the way others shed objectivity on the subjectivity of self reflection.

This makes perfect sense when we consider cardinal air is the initiation into relating. Considering the first six houses of the horoscope are below the horizon in the realm of subjective consciousness, where it is night, when we come over the horizon into the 7th house we are entering the realm of objective consciousness, where there is light. Libra at that threshold is quite literally the equal balance of day and night at the autumnal equinox. Balance is a key word for Libra.  Considerate of the thoughts and opinions of others, Libra is diplomatic and seeks harmony. This does not mean that Libra will forgo their own opinion for the sake of the other's. Rather, Libra can be objective and understand others points of view even if they don't agree. In fact, there is a manipulative side to Libra where Libra gets the other to see Libra's point of view by letting other think it was the other's idea.  Libra does like to consider both or all sides of an issue and can play devil's advocate quite well too, even if they aren't attached to that opposing opinion but rather feel the need for it to be aired and considered intellectually.  Libra is ruled by Venus.  This adds charm to the archetype along with a refined sense of appreciation of beauty, art, ambiance, and romance.

When the Sun is in Libra it is a good month to focus on your relationships with others. Take note of how well you harmonize with others, notice the situations where you do most readily and where it is more difficult. This provides insight into self motivation and patterns of relating. Look at your best friend, spouse, and other close relationships that you choose and see how they emulate or bring out the wonderful qualities of you. Look at those you have conflict with and start to weave together a pattern. How many times do we all repeat the same relationship dynamic be it with a person we are dating, a co-worker, or boss? How many times do we need to encounter the same difficult personal dynamic  in a different person, stepping on that same nerve and throwing us off balance before we quit point a finger at all of  them and take an objective look at our self?  Why do we attract this similar person over and over again? What does it tell us about our self? These are the patterns of relating that Libra asks us to take a detached objective view of to glean self insight.

Relationship Consultation with Julene
 relate img
We have soul contacts with many people in our lives: friends, lovers, family members, teachers, bosses, co-workers, neighbors, you name it. Our lives are full of relationships and what others mirror back to us. Some relationships make us feel wonderful and special and we deem them fulfilling. Other relationships make us feel angry and hurt and we deem then toxic. Surprisingly both kinds and all the ones in the middle have something to teach us about ourselves. Often the most horrendous relationships can be powerfully self transforming when we learn and grow from them. A Relationship Consultation with Julene provides insight into the dynamics that are present in your relationships.

The Ruler of Libra is Retrograde from October 8 - November 18, 2010
 lecture pic

While Venus is retrograde from October 8th to November 18th, it is an excellent time to revive the romance in your relationships, to take the time to stop and smell the roses and bring your inner awareness to the beauty in the world around you. It's also a good time for some inner reflection on your role in co-creating your various relationship dynamics. Venus is retrograde in Scorpio, a sign of transformation, depth of feeling, intimacy, and the shadow. This may be a time when you find you are activating your partner's shadow and he or she is activating yours. That's ok, it's one of the things retrograde Venus in Scorpio is supposed to drudge up! True intimacy in relationships comes from sharing all of our self with another, even those ignored parts of the psyche hiding in the corner gathering cobwebs. Retrograde Venus in Scorpio is the perfect time to dust them off and realize they aren't really as scary as they are feared to be.  Realizing we are lovable even with our faults and imperfections is where the relationship evolves to a whole new level. The incredible transformational power of this intimate experience of relationships is what Venus in Scorpio seeks to achieve. It allows us to truly be our self with another.

Venus Retrograde is a great time to.........

-Take stock of the quality of balance in your life. Balance between work and play, between family and career, between social time and private time, and in all areas of your life. If you are spending too much time focusing on one area over others and feel off balance, use the Venus retrograde to create  a better balance.

-Re-examine your values, are the same ones you've had for years still serving you today?

-Examine your finances (and in Scorpio, your investments). If you are struggling financially this is good time to check into a loan modification for your mortgage. Inquire before the six week period of Venus retrograde because most banks are taking 45 days to review the request. This way during the retrograde, they can be working on revising the terms of your loan.

-Focus on cultivating your inner beauty and internal balance. Engage in social activities that make you feel good on the inside. Notice how that boosts the operation of the law of attraction in your life.

-Re-arrange or re-decorate a room in your house or your office space

-Go through some of those unpacked boxes of possessions that have been in the basement or attic for years. Keep what still holds value for you and get rid of what doesn't.

-Revive the romance in your relationships, seek and find the inner romantic part of yourself

-Attune to the love and beauty unfolding around you in the world, look for it and become aware of how you find what you are looking for.

-Cultivate and foster your important relationships

-Look up that long lost best friend

In honor of Libra and balance I'm going to share a breathing technique that helps to align your meridians.

Using your thumb and one finger, place them on either side of your nose. You are going to close and open your nostrils one at a time. Covering your right nostril, breathe in through your left. Then cover your left nostril and breathe out through your right. Keeping your left nostril covered breathe in through your right. Then cover your right nostril and breathe out through your left.  The idea is to breathe in through one side, and out through the other. So you will breathe out and then in through the same one before switching sides.  This draws air in through one side and exhales it out the other. Repeat until you feel your balance restored. This also does wonders when your nose is stuffy. Even if you can't breathe in on one side at first, keep at it. You'll be surprised when it clears.
