HOW CAN THE CALIFORNIA AUTISM INSURANCE LAW  HELP YOU?

autism team Join The Autism Society of San Diego on Tuesday, September 18, 2012, for an informational meeting to examine the new California Autism Insurance Law

Time: 6:00 PM
Location: 4699 Murphy Canyon Road, San Diego, CA 92123

Signed into law in October 2011 by Gov. Jerry Brown, the provisions of the California autism insurance bill (SB 946) went into effect on July 1, 2012.

Certain health care plans must add coverage "for behavioral health treatment" targeting patients with autism or a "pervasive developmental disorder".

There are many questions surrounding passage of this law and how it impacts persons with autism, such as:

  • "Does my insurance cover autism services now?"
  • "How do I access coverage through my insurance?"
  • "We are receiving services paid by the Regional Center.    Does that change now?
  • "Is there an age limit for services?"

Two professionals with experience navigating the insurance coverage for autism services will be our presenters:

*Alan Lincoln, Ph.D., MSCP, BCBA-D,

Professor, AIU Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Director,

CARES (The Center for Autism Research Education and Service)

*Robert Haupt, MA, BCBA

Vice President Business Development Autism Spectrum Therapies

Don't miss this opportunity to learn how this new law might affect your family.

SAVE THE DATE: AUTISM-FRIENDLY "GRINCH" IS COMING TO THE OLD GLOBE
Grinch

The Old Globe will offer an autism-friendly performance of the holiday classic Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 10:30 a.m. Following in the footsteps of successful autism-friendly performances of The Lion King andMary Poppins on Broadway, The Grinch will be performed in a welcoming and supportive environment for persons on the autism spectrum and their families. Slight adjustments will be made to the production including fewer loud noises and flashing lights that may be challenging for some audience members.

In addition to the adjustments made to the show, additional features will help make the experience safer and more enjoyable for persons with autism and other sensitivity issues. To better prepare audience members for the performance, a pre-show visit to the Globe will be offered to familiarize them with Balboa Park and the Old Globe Theatre. An online social story will also be available to view and print at home that will outline in words and pictures the experience that families will undergo during their trip to see Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The lobby of the theatre will serve as a quiet area if someone needs to leave their seat during the show. On-site volunteers will be on hand to assist families as needed as they arrive at the Old Globe Theatre and throughout the performance.

Tickets to this special performance will go on sale September 9 via telephone purchase only.  Please call: 619-234-5623.  No online ticket purchases will be available for this performance.

The Autism Society of San Diego is proud to partner with the Old Globe theater by providing training for their staff and volunteers to assist on the day of the performance.
