AUTISM SOCIETY OF SAN DIEGO AND CHAD HONORS VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR, TILA COTA
Tila Cota, Volunteer of the Year

Tila Cota,

Volunteer of the Year

The Autism Society of San Diego and Combined Health Agencies (CHAD) will honor Autism Society of San Diego Board Member, TIla Cota, at this year's Volunteer of the Year awards ceremony on Sept 14, 2011.  TIla has served on the board for the past three years and has chaired the Society's largest annual fundraiser, All Out for Autism for the past two years. The proceeds from All Out for Autism have enabled hundreds of kids and teens on the Autism Spectrum to attend Camp I Can, Surf Camp and other Autism Society of San Diego recreational programs.

In addition to her tireless work on behalf of the organization, Tila is a busy, successful businesswoman, a community leader and the mother of two young boys, one of whom is on the autism spectrum. However, even with a full schedule, Tila is always happy to give of her time and skill to help the chapter, incuding writing grants, and serving on several other vital comittees. Tila is a superwoman and we are so happy to bestow her with this honor.

GOODSEARCH: THE NEW SEARCH AND ONLINE SHOPPING TOOL THAT BENEFITS THE AUTISM SOCIETY OF SAN DIEGO

 Goodsearch Logo

We have something new and exciting we'd like to share with you! It's the new Autism Society of America - San Diego toolbar - once added to Internet Explorer or Firefox, each time you shop at more than 1,600 stores (from Amazon to Zazzle!) a percentage of your purchase will automatically be donated to Autism Society of America - San Diego - at no cost to you.  In fact, you may even save money as the toolbar provides coupons and deals as well. The toolbar also has a search box and each time you search the Internet, about a penny is donated to Autism Society of America - San Diego.

There is no catch, no gimmicks, and you do not

have to register for anything. Simply download this toolbar, which will appear at the top of your web browser (it has been thoroughly screened, and is completely legitimate...McAffee and Norton rated "Safe."). Then, whenever you wish to surf the web, simply use the GoodSearch toolbar in lieu of your usual browser.  For every search you make, a penny is donated to our local chapter!!!

The search function will yield results the same as any other browser, and if you are looking for a specific item, any results that come up from a GoodShop affiliate store will be highlighted under the link in yellow, informing you that your purchase from that site can benefit the ASA San Diego. The toolbar shows in real time how much of your purchase will be donated back to our organization. It's a simple, convenient way for us to generate funds for this incredible organization that has given so much to our families!

The search engine is powered by Yahoo!, so it is a reliable, trusted search engine. You will not be solicited to buy anything by any advertisers, and you do not have to purchase anything at all in order to help benefit the ASA through GoodSearch.

September's speaker will be Merryn Affleck, pictured with her canine friend, Joey. A long time advocate and life coach, Merryn is a mother of a 23-year-old son with high functioning autism. She is adamant about the importance of independence and makes this a focus when working with clients, regardless of age and disability.  A common concern for many parents of ASD adults is how to get these "kids" off the coach and out of the house! Ms. Affleck will share some practical methods and tips for you to try at home to help motivate and foster independence, while staying sane.

*Light refreshments will be served.
