UPDATE: Take Me Home Program: A Safety Program for Persons with Autism Spectrum and Related Disorders

The Take Me Home registry is a cooperative program with the San Diego Sheriff's and several local organizations which serve a variety of people with special health and safety needs to help them be identified when encountered by law enforcement officers throughout the county as persons with special needs, thus protecting their safety and helping them to access the care they need quickly.

"Take Me Home" is intended to serve, through these expert organizations, people with developmental disabilities or medical conditions that may increase their risk of wandering or being lost, or that may be unable to identify themselves or provide accurate information about their immediate needs.

Click here to read about "Take Me Home" in the Union Tribune

Please visit our website HERE for detailed information on how to get started.
Its as easy as 1, 2, 3
1) Download Registration Form, complete & sign.
2) Mail to our office with a recent photo or contact info for digital photo- we will enter info into the  Sheriff's database.

3) Notify Sheriff or Autism Society of any important changes.

You must have the authority to enter the individual into the database to sign the registration form

Photos should be recent, close-up and front facing. Children's school portraits are ideal!

UPDATE AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR REGISTRANTS: I am pleased to report that amost 50 individuals have been registered and that their information is being entered into the database. I encourage those who have not yet registered to do so soon. I also want to caution families and caretakers by reminding them that this is a brand new program and while in the start-up mode will not offer the full protection envisioned until it is in full operation. The training and equipping of law enforcement officers and dispatch staff throughout the county will be a long-term as well as ongoing process. Nevertheless, until there are people in the database nothing else can move ahead, so your participation now is crucial to both the success of this vital program and the safety of people with developmental disabilities in years to come.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Cherri Cary, Take Me Home Liaison

AMC Entertainment (AMC) and the Autism Society have teamed up to bring families affected by autism and other disabilities a special opportunity to enjoy their favorite films in a safe and accepting environment on a monthly basis with the "Sensory Friendly Films" program.

In order to provide a more accepting and comfortable setting for this unique audience, the movie auditoriums will have their lights brought up and the sound turned down, families will be able to bring in their own gluten-free, casein-free snacks, and no previews or advertisements will be shown before the movie. Additionally, audience members are welcome to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing - in other words, AMC's "Silence is Golden®" policy will not be enforced unless the safety of the audience is questioned.
