The Autism Society of San Diego Presents our Summer Mini-Conference:
Technologies for People with Special Needs Conference, featuring Eric Sailers
 The Autism Society of San Diego is pleased to announce its upcoming summer conference:
iPod Touch and iPad for Children with Autism
with Well Known Autism Educator and Assistive Technology Specialist, Eric Sailers.
Saturday July 31, 2010
In this workshop, parents and professionals will learn how to implement iPod touch and iPad for children with autism. They will learn basics regarding the devices and iTunes, in addition to an evaluative framework for selecting applications. Applications for the following areas will also be discussed and demonstrated: AAC, social skills, literacy, math, data collection, behavior management, music, songs, art and games. There will be an in depth look of the widely known AAC app, Proloquo2Go.
A light continental breakfast will be provided.
Space is limited, so please register early to reserve your spot.

Announcing A New Social Networking Group for Young Adults with Asperger's in Their 20s, 30's & 40's
 This new support/social group will hold events in the Central and East County area of San Diego every 3rd Saturday of the month starting in July. It will provide a casual, safe, family-like environment where young adults can form lifelong friendships and network with one another. Every event will revolve around a fun, low cost activity that will bring the group together while working on the formation of new and existing social skills.
Following is the event description for the first meeting on July 17, 2010:
What better way to kickoff our new group then with a tasty dinner at Carl's Jr and the non stop excitement of a live baseball game? Below are the necessary steps to get your Padres tickets, where to meet the group on game day, and how to get to the game.
To attend the first meetup you will need to take the following steps:
1) Call the Padres ticket office on July 7th, 2010 after 10am at 619-795-5000. Press #1 for the ticket office.
2) Give the Padres the following Account number: #2439371. They will automatically sit the group together when you purchase your ticket.
On July 17th, meet the group at the North Park Carls Jr. located at 3008 El Cajon Blvd. at 3:00 pm. Please bring $5-$10 to pay for your meal. After dinner, the group will board the #15 Bus (Downtown Limited Stops via El Cajon Blvd) and get off at the Broadway at 9th The group will arrive at approximately 5:10-5:15pm with plenty of time to locate seats seats. The game will start at 5:35pm.

AMC Entertainment (AMC) and the Autism Society have teamed up to bring families affected by autism and other disabilities a special opportunity to enjoy their favorite films in a safe and accepting environment on a monthly basis with the "Sensory Friendly Films" program.
In order to provide a more accepting and comfortable setting for this unique audience, the movie auditoriums will have their lights brought up and the sound turned down, families will be able to bring in their own gluten-free, casein-free snacks, and no previews or advertisements will be shown before the movie. Additionally, audience members are welcome to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing - in other words, AMC's "Silence is GoldenŽ" policy will not be enforced unless the safety of the audience is questioned.

North County Monthly Pool Party
 Join other families with autistic children at a Family Fun Pool Night in north county. Our north county Camp I CAN partner, the Palomar Family YMCA, will provide the pool and we will provide the fun! Bring the entire family for an enjoyable, relaxing night of family recreation. We will have food from El Pollo Loco and drinks, but feel free to bring an item to share potluck style. We will have GFCF options available.
