Dear friends,
| |
Spring is in the air and it will soon be evident Sunday when we turn our clocks ahead one hour for daylight savings time! We may be losing one hour of sleep, but I for one am excited to have daylight last a little longer.
We also will be at the Grinnell Home Show this weekend - so stop by our booth to discuss all the new things happening on campus.

Community Garden at Seeland Park: Planning Again! | | |
After much interest (not to mention lots of veggies) in the Seeland Park community garden, residents are already gearing up for garden season 2011.
Last year, fifteen residents contributed to the community garden and many enjoyed the "fruit" of their labor all summer long with a lot of fresh vegetables and beautiful flowers. The community garden even took part in the Master Gardener tour last June.
| | Daryl Dyer and Don Milburn |
Don Milburn is organizing the plots again for summer 2011, so if you live at Seeland Park and would like to take part please call Don to reserve (number in your Seeland Park directory). Residents are also welcome to share or team up to garden one plot together.
If you aren't a resident, we welcome you to walk by over the course of the summer and enjoy the flowers and possibly a few tips from the gardeners (if you're lucky to catch one!)

New Employee Spotlight:
Rebecca Puls | | |

Rebecca and her husband Jon reside in Brooklyn with three children: Jordyn is 7, Bode will be 5 next week and Addison is 13 months. Jon is the foreman of the Grinding and Grooving Division for Manatts, where he has worked for over 12 years. Rebecca has been a stay at home mom for the last 2 years, and prior to that she worked as Special Projects Manager for Capitol Resources, a fundraising company out of Brooklyn.
Some of the political leaders she did fundraising for were Former House Rep. Rod Roberts (the current Director of the Department of Inspections and Appeals), House Reps Erik Helland, Dawn Pettengill, Jeff Kaufmann, Speaker of the House Kraig Paulsen, House Leader Linda Upmeyer, and numerous others including non-profit groups and several US Congressmen and Senators. Rebecca also worked extensively on the Iowa presidential Straw Poll with Mitt Romney.
In October of last year her grandfather fell and broke his hip. Seeing firsthand everything that he would need help with just getting him through his simple daily activities, she decided to take life in a totally different direction. Rebecca enrolled in the Wiltfang Medical Institute and received her CNA Degree, with fulfilling her clinical at St. Francis Manor.
"Right away I knew St. Francis was where I wanted to be. On weekends I am an Aide, and during the week I focus on raising money for the St. Francis Manor Foundation," says Rebecca. "My current project is raising money to purchase four new whirlpool tubs for the facility. Keep an eye on the upcoming newsletters for more information on my projects and our fundraising goals."
Welcome Rebecca!

In 1985, St. Francis Manor added eight rooms making it a 54 bed facility. How much did the addition cost?

Last week's question:
Why are we named 'St. Francis Manor'?
Originally, the land was home to St. Francis Hospital. Read more of the history behind St. Francis Hospital, click HERE.
