Greetings!
Julie Morse, Board President
The Arlington Community 4th of July events were wonderful!  What a great day we had.  The weather was a little drizzly at times but that didn't phase the community who lined the streets hours before the Parade started to get the best viewing spots!  What a great partnership we have with Cascade Valley Hospital and Clinics in sponsoring the annual 4th of July Parade.  It was a wonderful event with the "kiddies parade" leading the Main  parade. Many thanks to everyone who worked on the Parade to make it a great success.

I discovered that Arlington is one of the few remaining communities that sponsors a 4th of July Fireworks display for the community. We estimated the attendance at 2000 people watching the fireworks this year and the reports I had from the community was "what a great display of fireworks".  The show lasted about 30 minutes and was very well received from the community.  A big Thank you to our wonderful Arlington-Smokey Point community for bringing your family, friends and neighbors to the 4th of July events in our wonderful city!

I can't believe that August is right around the corner! Our annual BBQ happens on August 10 in downtown Arlington. We have a wonderful hour planned for you and your employees, with great food and music featuring our own Becky Foster. Mark your calendars for this fun Chamber meeting.

I encourage you to Buy Local and support your local merchants.  Arlington-Smokey Point's Buy Local campaign kicked off in May and is picking up momentum. Remember that the dollars spent in our beautiful city benefits our City and our community!

Have a wonderful month of August as we get ready to send our kids back to school in September!

SNOHOMISH COUNTY COMMITTEE FOR IMPROVED TRANSPORTATION:
CHAMBER JOINS FORCES
Transportation issues in our area are becoming a hot topic.  I know there are thousands of local residents who join me in agonizing over the delays on 172nd Street that occur on a daily basis.   At the last Chamber luncheon, Senator Mary Margaret Haugen stated that Snohomish County lacks the coordination to come up with a list of priorities of our transportation needs.

Recently, a group of concerned people throughout our county re-formed a committee to prioritize our transportation concerns.  This group is the Snohomish County Committee for Improved Transportation, also known as SCCIT.  At the July meeting, Arlington City Council member Linda Byrnes and I were added to the list of SCCIT board members.  SCCIT is a volunteer, non-profit organization comprised of business, citizen and governmental leaders who share a common interest in seeking solutions to our transportation problems and assuring that our County receives an appropriated and equitable level of transportation funding from limited local, state and federal revenue sources.

From time to time, I will update you on the progress of SCCIT.

BUSINESS WALK WITH KIRK PEARSON

Come meet with your House Rep - Kirk Pearson - 39th Leg Dist. Kirk Pearson will be in downtown Arlington on Tuesday August 17th  from 12pm - 1pm at Legion Park. He will start off by talking to us about Legislation that has passed that will affect business in our community. Afterwards he will be taking questions.

Have you been wondering about this legislation about getting rid of B&O taxes? What about the option of Income tax? What do you think about that? How about what the plan is for our future business owners and how the public school system is being reformed?
Now is your chance to ask him in person. This event is open to all public.

For the local Arlington Business owners:
If you are not able to make it to the Park because you are working your shop, but you would like Representative Pearson to come and meet you, please let us know. He would like to spend some time that day going down Olympic Ave and meeting with the Downtown Merchants to answer any questions or concerns you have about what is to come or what has been going on in your business.
