OUR "SHOW UP AND SHOW OUT" SCHOOL YEAR

executive_directorIt's back to school time! Each school year promises a new beginning, and during the 2009-2010 school year the See Forever Foundation/Maya Angelou Public Charter School (SFF/MAPCS) will deliver a "Show Up and Show Out" presence in all that we do. Here's what's new and exciting...

A Fresh Start for Maya Angelou Academy
This will be the first full school year at the Maya Angelou Academy (MAA), the school that the See Forever Foundation manages at the New Beginnings Youth Development Center (formerly the Oak Hill Youth Center). A picture really is worth a thousand words, so I won't try to describe the difference between the old Oak Hill and New Beginnings. While there have been highly-publicized challenges, the finished product is a testament to the committed young men we serve at that campus. As the academy embarks on its first, full year, I encourage you to find a way to visit the MAA team and the students.

Let's Embrace the New Leadership
Each year we welcome new members to our community, and we are reminded that change is a great opportunity. Change revitalizes an organization and brings new energy, perspective and talents to reach our standing goal - "that every kid knows that s/he is the 'smart kid.'"

At the charter school campuses, we welcome our dynamic leaders - the new and the returning. ...

CELEBRATING GREAT ACHIEVEMENTS ACROSS OUR CAMPUSES

From May to June "Pomp and Circumstance" can be heard in auditoriums and stadiums all across the country as hundreds of young people end one phase of their life and begin another. Hearing the march at a SFF/MAPCS ceremony is unlike any other experience you may have had - it may bring up familiar memories of your own past ceremonies - but when you look into the faces of the 78 graduates across our four campuses you know that it is very different.
