Greetings!

It's almost Thanksgiving and, again, we are truly thankful for the gifts of time, talent and treasure that you continue to bestow upon the Women's Foundation of Arkansas.  WFA is an organization that continues to serve a larger number of women and girls across Arkansas each year because of you!

This year, the number of women and girls that we are serving is increased through grant-making and Girls of Promise.  We look forward to providing updates on the three deserving grant recipients and the six Girls of Promise confernces in the coming months.

We hope you enjoy this month's e-newsletter.

In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the WFA office will be closed on Thursday, November 25th and Friday, November 26th.  The office will reopen at 9:00 AM on Monday, November 29.
Women Take Philanthropic Lead
On November 11, Financial-Planning.com posted an article Women Take the Phanthropic Lead dicussing a recently published study by the Women's Philanthropy Institute at the Center on Philanthopy at Indiana University.

The study, Women Give 2010, "revealed that women at almost all income levels are more likely to give to charity than men and give more money on average than men."

Women Moving Millions
Jennifer Buffet, president and co-chair, NoVo FoundationJennifer Buffett, daughter-in-law of Warren Buffett and president and co-chair of the NoVo Foundation, spoke at the Clinton School of Public Service on November 4th on the importance of recognizing the value of women.  (Full recording here.)

When asked about her support of the Women Women Moving Millions ImageMoving Millions campaign, Jennifer responded that "a sizeable group of women are waking up to the fact that we have the voice, power and money to bring to the table.  Money gets us credibility and in Women's Funding Networkthe game, but I'm really interested in the possibilities that come next when all these powerful women come to gether."

The goal for Women's Funding Network's Women Moving Millions campaign is to raise gifts of $1 million or more from individuals or groups of donors in support of women's funds - and women's rights - around the world.  The campaign is currently in a second phase after launching in 2007.

The first phase of the campaign was astonishing in terms of success.  Shattering its goal of raising $150 million by May 2009, the campaign has raised over $181 million from 102 donors - and counting!
A partnership between visionary donors and Women's Funding Network, Women Moving Millions is groundbreaking in that it has made seismic changes to the landscape of the women's rights movement.  (Read more.)
Interested in Science or Engineering?
More and more resouces are popping up with the purpose of enhancing our youth's interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields.

Making a SpirometerTryScience.org is a "gateway to experience the excitement of contemporary science and technology through on and offline interactivity with science and technology centers worldwide."  Students are drawn to the bouncing and bold design of the website and led to try fun science experiments.  There are also sections for parents, teachers, scientists and engineers to become involved.

TryEngineering.org is "portal about engineering and engineering careers to help young people understand better what engineering means, and how an engineering career can be made part of their future."  The website is a resrouce for students, parents, teachers and school counselors.

Silicon Carbide whiskersTryNano.org is a "resource for anyone interested in learning about Nanoscience and nanotechnology."  Nanoscience often refers to research that discovers  and characterizes new behaviors and properties at the nanoscale.  Nanotechnology describes how discoveries at the nanoscale are put to work, especially by controlling the behavior of matter and building useful devices.  Examples of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at work can be found in medicine, eletronics, robotics and energy production.

Accreditation.org is "the ultimate resource for engineering, computing and technology accreditation."

WFA's Girls of Promise
