Insights from Queen Noor
"...when you're addressing fundamental development issues, especially in the poorer parts of the world, you cannot look at women's issues in isolation from children's issues, poverty issues, even environmental, health, and education issues."Queen Noor, widow of Kin Hussein of Jordan, has an amazing history of both business and philanthropic success. John Rezek, Editor in Chief of The Rotarian had a conversation with this role model here after she addressed the Montreal convention in June. |

Reducing Poverty & Promoting Economic Opportunity
The Arkansas Legislative Taskforce on Reducing Poverty and Promoting Economic Opportunity was created as required by ACT 722 of 2009. The Task Force began working in September 2009 and established a set of recommendations intended to reduce poverty in Arkansas to pre-recession levels in five years and to cut poverty in half in ten.
The Taskforce strongly feels that these ambitious goals are both attainable and critical to the future of our state's economic well-being. The report is a comprehensive analysis and presents recommendations adopted by the Taskforce in an effort to aid the Governor and General Assembly in considering strategies and benchmarks for reaching these ambitious goals.

Arkansas Health Rankings
Health factors in the County Health Rankings represent what influences the health of a county. County Health Rankings measure four types of health factors: health behaviors, clinical care, social and economic, and physical environment factors.
Working together to improve your community's health involves a cycle of activities: assessing needs and resources, picking priorities, finding programs and policies that work, implementing strategies, and evaluating efforts. Depending on the progress your community has already made, you can enter this cycle at any point. In addition, depending on the role you play, additional resources are available to help you take action.

Alternative Gift Idea!
Dr. Jane Wayland, Chair of the Marketing and Advertising Department at the UALR, suggested giving the gift of charity to your friends and family this year during this month's Today's THV Consumer Report. As an alternative to the typical material gifts you might normally buy, making a charitable gift to an organization that the recipient cares about is meaningful and great for any budget. WFA was excited to be named during the interview and would love to be considered for alternative gifts this holiday season. Finish your holiday shopping without leaving your house by making donations here! |
