Greetings!
Also, as we shared in our last eddition, we see this e-Newsletter as an educational tool - to update you on the who's, what's and why's of women and girls in Arkansas, as well as, the issues impacting women and girls locally AND globally. In this issue, we have an inspiring video and are debuting a new column: Supporting Women. Each month, Supporting Women will shine a light on an organization that is providing valuable services to our state's women and girls.
We hope that you'll enjoy this June edition of WFA's e-Newsletter! |

The 2010 Power of the Purse luncheon has been scheduled: Friday, October 15th. This year's committee, chaired by Dorothy Hall is planning a full program for this year's luncheon: an engaging speaker, Woman of the Year in Philanthropy award, announcing the 2010 WFA grant recipients AND the inaugural presentation of an extra-special award...... so, keep an eye on your inbox and mail box for more details!! WFA will also be unveiling a new look for the Power of the Purse this year. EXIT Marketing, the firm that produced WFA's award-winning logo, is designing the new look for us. |

This summer, the WFA is launching a volunteer-based research project. Data from the first 10 years of Girls of Promise conferences is just waiting to tell us all the effects of WFA's signature program!
Girls of Promise: Educating Our Future will: 1) document how/if Girls of Promise has made a positive effect on the lives of participants, 2) document how/if Girls of Promise has made an impact on high school graduation rates and/or college attendance rates of participants, 3) provide a historical record of Girls of Promise conference participants and their experiences and 4) create a current alumnae contact list.
Volunteers are needed from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM between June 21 and August 5. Volunteers are welcome to join us for 1 hour or all day - once or every day! Specific duties will include logging survey data, typing participant promises and calling program alumnae. A volunteer reception will be held at the end of the program as a small token of our appreciation. Click here to sign up! |

Zainab Salbi, co-founder of Women for Women International, gives an inspiring call to action in support of women and girls around the world. Salbi was the keynote speaker at the closing luncheon at the 2010 Women's Funding Network annual conference.
WFA's Board President, Cindy Conger, and Lynnette attended the conference in Denver last month. They both came back from the conference energized about the future for the Women's Foundation of Arkansas! |

Supporting Women
Lupita Chavarria, Executive Director, AMA |
Asociación de Mujeres de Arkansas (Association of Women of Arkansas) is a state-wide 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to the needs of Latina women and their families. The purpose of AMA is to empower the community so its members can achieve a healthy life style, restore traditional family values and cultures, preserve the family unit, and enhance economic opportunities and financial stability.
AMA is headed by Lupita Chavarria, who has been providing these services on her own to the Latina women of Arkansas for the past 10 years. She recently incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in September of 2009 as a way to attract funding to help with this important work. AMA hosts health clinics around the state - partnering with local agencies to provide such testing as HIV/AIDS and diabetes, as well as distribute health information to those attending the health fairs. Partnering with AMA at the health fairs offers a wonderful venue for non-profits providing services to the Latina population to get the word out about their work. AMA also offers teen pregnancy prevention programs; organizes seminars/workshops about the economy, education and laws; provides referrals (attorneys, dentists, doctors, clinics, job search assistance, etc), and much more.

Please remember that we want to involve you in the important work of the Women's Foundation wherever and whenever we can. Drop by and visit us, send an email, visit our website... let us hear from you! As we all know, a group of women with a single purpose can achieve ANYTHING! Together, we can ensure a better future for all the girls & women of Arkansas. |
