Greetings!
With May fast approaching, many of us are looking ahead to the end of the school year and graduations. Education has been - and remains to be - a focus of the Women's Foundation since its founding. At a recent retreat, the Board reaffirmed its commitment to advancing educational opportunities for Arkansas's women and girls as a means to their achieving economic viability. WFA has long held to the belief that when women are educated and economically secure, their children are better educated, better nourished , and in better health; moreover, these benefits reverberate beyond their families to include whole communities. If you visit our website, you'll see that we've updated our "Addressing the Need" section for you to educate yourself on the myriad issues impacting the women and girls of our state. We hope you take advantage of this resource. We'll be updating it as we come across information we would like to share with you. With more information, we can all make better decisions as to where we would like to direct our gifts of time, talent and treasure. Happy April! |

Brownie Ledbetter (1932-2010)
Brownie W. Ledbetter
 |
In March, WFA lost one of its strongest advocates. Mary Brown "Brownie" Williams Ledbetter, a political activist who dedicated her life to such issues as equality in education, died Sunday, March 21.
When the National Women's History Project honored Brownie in 2007, they stated that in her life, "we see a lifetime of dedication to making the world a better place. Her impact on a fair education for all is indelible." Everyone associated with the Women's Foundation of Arkansas has benefited in part because of Brownie. She was a Founder, served on the Board of Directors for 10 years and continued to be a strong champion of the WFA's mission. |

Mother's Day Donations
Mother's Day is coming up on Sunday, May 9. Think about what the women in your life have given to you to help you get to where you are today. These are the things the Women's Foundation strives to provide to the women and girls of arkansas - the resources necessary to achieve self-sufficiency.
We invite you to consider a gift to the Women's Foundation to honor that special woman. Honor cards will be sent in your name from the WFA office. |
|
Please remember that we want to involve you in the important work of the Women's Foundation wherever and whenever we can. Drop by and visit us, send an email, visit our website... let us hear from you! As we all know, a group of women with a single purpose can achieve ANYTHING! Together, we can ensure a better future for all the girls & women of Arkansas. |
