From the Director's Desk Lynnette Watts
I'd like to share a little snippet with you from an early letter dated July 30, 1998; penned before the formalization of what we now know as the Women's Foundation of Arkansas: "At the Top 100 Women workshop prior to the luncheon March 6, the speaker, Susan Greene, led us in an exercise designed to surface our dreams and visions. What would we do if we could make ANYTHING HAPPEN? Table by table the reports from our discussion sessions focused on ways we could make a positive impact on our state. Voices were heard from the podium and throughout the room, voices filled with hopefulness and enthusiasm...for what? The recommendations mentioned 'a women's fund,' 'an ongoing organization composed of the Top 100 Women', 'a foundation to benefit education, families, child care,' or other variations. Some of us appeared to be holding back, even as others enthusiastically proposed immediate contributions from those in the room. Time constraints (both that day, and the ones we live with daily in our various 'real worlds') brought the animated discussion to a close." The letter went on to invite the recipients to join in another facilitated discussion to move this voiced dream to reality. As we move into the next decade at the Women's Foundation, I'd like to challenge us all, again, to join our hopeful and enthusiastic voices together and build on what these first 100 women began - a strong WOMEN'S foundation to address the myriad needs and opportunities of the women and girls of Arkansas. Together we can affect change in the lives of many. Don't let the time constraints of the day delay your participation, please visit www.womensfoundationarkansas.org to see how you can become more involved. Happy September! |
