February 2012
Dreams

Are you a winter person? I am. I think it's mostly because I like to hibernate, and also because I treasure sleep and dreams.

If you've ever been intrigued by the subject of dreams, in learning more about yourself through the medium of dreams or hoping to dream in general, (if you are not dreaming most nights, you should be!) try this simple exercise during the month of February: ask your dreams a question before you go to sleep.

Step one is to write down your question on a piece of paper or journal near to your bed.

Your question may be as serious as:

  • Is a particular relationship/friendship healthy for me?

  • What foods should I remove from my diet that may be contributing to my feeling out of balance?

  • What would be the best exercise regimen for me to begin at this time?

Or your question may be more light hearted and fun, such as:

  • What colors should I include in my wardrobe to reflect the person that I am becoming?

  • What is the perfect gift to purchase for Valentine's Day for that special someone?

The idea is to be open to receiving the information and to trust that you will be answered in some way.

Step two, upon awakening, is to write down as soon as you are able to, the content of the dream. Try not to discard any information that you may consider random or seemingly nonsensical. You may find upon reading the information later that it makes more sense than you thought, or that it begins to create meaning for you over a period of time.

Step three, continue asking. Writing down your dreams is a discipline and practice that will support you again and again when you invest in what they have to tell you.

In this month of opportunity to rest and retreat, grab your favorite pen and journal, settle in, and be open to the innate wisdom within. Ask and ye shall receive.

Happy February (and Sweet Dreams)
