In Gratitude

When there is a multitude of good things going on in your life, it's easy to be in a state of gratitude. The real exercise, the one that tests your spirit, is to find the positives even when you may not be feeling them right at the moment.  By reminding yourself of the good things occurring in your life, this not only helps to create better feelings physiologically but also attracts more of those good feelings to you.

The following is a small example.  One day my son, applying merciless strategies no doubt learned by my husband, began to crush me at the game of Monopoly. "Okay, I said to myself, "let's see if this gratitude thing really works."  From that point, as I carried my shoe around the board I began to say statements out loud such as, "I am so grateful for the $10 rent you paid me for landing on my one house on Mediterranean Ave."  Then, "I am so psyched for the$ 14 you owe me for landing on St. James Place, the only one of the three oranges I own. "  This went on for awhile, much to the annoyance of my son.  I declared these statements out loud for emphasis, to let the Universe know I was serious.  The point of all this?

I won.

And I've used that tactic ever since.  And so has my son, which gives us many laughs as we see who can be the most (obnoxiously) grateful.

This Thanksgiving, wherever and whoever you're celebrating with, consider a ritual of going around the table or room and stating something you're grateful for. It invokes a powerful and uplifting energy to the space and sets the tone of how your want to experience to be, particularly if you typically have less than fabulous energy when you and yours convene around a turkey.

Kids really enjoy this activity, hearing what others have to say and also being asked to express themselves, however, they see fit.  It could be the stuffing, the pumpkin pie, the football games, or the family and friends you choose to share your day with, but whatever it is , CHOOSE to feel grateful in order to bring more of those good feelings to you.

Happy November!

In Gratitude,

 Jill
