Newsletter - January 2012

Greetings!

A new year has bought some interesting and exciting new stock at Trainspotters.

Hitting the shelves we have some classic British 1930/40's industrial lighting from Maxlume,
a prodigious mid-century manufacturer of industrial and public lighting.
We have a masculine Maxlume industrial pendant in 2 sizes, and some very unusual angular
bulkhead lights that Maxlume produced alongside electrical manufacturers Veritys.

On a slightly poignant note we have decided to finally let go of the last few original railway luggage
racks that we set aside for posterity some years ago.
We started the business salvaging these beauties from the slam door trains that were being scrapped at the time.
We've since re-manufactured our own shortened and adapted version, such was the demand, but here is the last opportunity to acquire an original.

As of this month's newsletter we are introducing a 'cheap to clear' offer - this month it is some original trestle bases- functional and saleable, but not the way we want to go with our stock.

With an extensive sourcing trip in Eastern Europe already under our belt this month we have an array of new communist-issue stock coming very soon.

We are also very excited about a large quantity of beautiful Holophane lights from the Concorde Hangars at Heathrow, recently demolished.. watch this space..

Smaller industrial Maxlume pendants

A run of smaller 1940/50’s British industrial pendant lights by Maxlume, salvaged from a factory in the north of England. Cast aluminium with thick domed glass diffusers. We’ve left these lights in the original grey/green paintwork, simply beeswaxing them to bring out the patina. Some are greener, some are greyer. We also have the larger versions of this light available.

Larger Industrial Maxlume pendants

A large run of 1940/50’s British industrial pendant lights by Maxlume, salvaged from a factory in the north of England. Cast aluminium with thick domed glass diffusers. We’ve left these lights in the original grey/green paintwork, simply beeswaxing them to bring out the patina. Large runs of British industrial lighting like this are an increasing rarity.

Caged Czech downlighters

We’ve managed to procure another quantity of these caged industrial downlighters with black enamelled shades, salvaged from a communist-era factory in the Czech Republic. Some characterful minor chipping to the enamel.

Original luggage racks

We started the business salvaging these luggage racks from the 1st class compartments of 1950’s British Rail slam door trains. We sold out a few years ago and have re-manufactured our own shortened and adapted version since. Here we are offering the very last few of the originals that we have. We put them aside for posterity 4 years ago, but their time has now come. Unpolished in the original matt patina.

A Recent Project ....

TGI, Bluewater

Another collaboration with ei services as part of the TGI re-branding project. We've supplied our industrial communist-era Czech downlighters repainted in 'TGI red', and had the previously clear glass diffusers shotblasted to make them obscure.
