Newsletter - October 2011

Greetings!

Autumn has been a season of vintage seating here at Trainspotters. We've had unprecedented demand and have so far managed to keep apace by buying some great runs of stacking chairs and stools from various UK sources.
Originating in the Bauhaus movement, stacking tubular metal furniture was widely produced in the UK from the 1930's-1960''s by such names as PEL, Cox, Du-Al, Remploy and Sheperd.
It's functionality and unfussy aesthetic lends itself perfectly to many contemporary design schemes.

We've entered the furniture manufacturing arena ourselves with our re-make of the classic tubular metal and plywood stacking stool, once ubiquitous in schools and universities across the land. We've adapted the stool to contemporary demands by raising it a few inches higher to bar stool height.

Looming winter brings many exciting prospects so please keep an eye on the website.

Stacking Remploy chairs

A large run of 1960’s tubular metal and ply wood stacking chairs, made by Remploy of Stafford. Ingenious angled frames allow the chairs to be interlocked in a row if required. Some characterful distressing to the metalwork and plywood, but structurally sound and sturdy.

Stacking Sheperd chairs

Stacking ply chairs

We have a large quantity of these mid-century stacking tubular steel chairs with plywood seats and backs. Beeswaxed to stabilize and revive. Each chair has a male and female linking pin so they can be connected together if required. Dimensions are for the seat. Some localised wear to the plywood in some areas, as to be expected for their age.

Stacking bar stools

We can’t get enough of the old ones so we’ve re-made them. Classic tubular metal stacking bar stools with stained and beeswaxed beech ply seats, the bases powdercoated black. Based on the 1950’s originals commonly used in schools and universities across the UK. We’ve made ours slightly taller than the originals to make them proper bar stool height. Made in Britain.
