KresgeTwo Weeks to Truth!
From Your Commodore Paul Kresge
kresge On May 10th, the Board and 7 members met at Scott Snyder's office in Denver. Scott directed a marketing fact finding exercise called Two Weeks to Truth where Scott's business partner, Eric, pummeled us with soul searching questions about the club and its functions, appeal, strengths and weaknesses. The exercise is designed to provide a clearer understanding and possibly some vision as to what we are, what we are not, and how best to work on our strengths, and how best to face the challenges that the club is dealing with. The group filled up 10+ pages of 24"x36" poster pages with answers. Scott and Eric are processing the answers now. It was a great exercise and I highly recommend it!

The DYC is a great club. We have great racing. We have great camaraderie. There have been lifetime associations created through membership. We sail in one of the most beautiful spots in the world. As members, we enjoy a bit of prestige and maybe even a touch of exclusivity! Our membership numbers are holding steady (slightly down from peak years but still ok) and our participation numbers are down. Given the economic times, we are doing ok. We have a little bit of cash in the bank, no debt, and pay our bills on time. However...can we do better? Probably. How do we continue our membership retention and growth? There are 300 sailboats berthed on Lake Dillon. Can we get them all to join the club? Other than the Dillon Open, the largest turnout we had on a regatta weekend was for the Cruiser Regatta! Do we change the racing program to keep it fresh and exciting? YOUR board is open for ideas so hit us up anytime during the season and we'll listen. It's a great club so don't be complacent and be happy with the status quo!

Board Update

As I mentioned in the last TellTale, Jackie Hall has tendered her resignation from the Board. We'll miss Jackie's leadership and energy.

I am very pleased to announce that Robin Jackson has volunteered to fill Jackie's vacancy and the Board has unanimously approved her appointment. We are very glad to have her join the Board and we looking forward to working with her. In addition to her spot on the Board, Robin will be heading up the Rhumlines for Saturday nights and I am sure that she can use some assistance with those. Welcome Robin!

See you on the 28th for the opening of the club. Given the weather, it might be that we are still ice skating on the lake but let's hope it stops snowing and we get a week of warmth in the High Country. PK

Getting the Clubhouse Ship-Shape
Jeff On'Neill Though the ice is still on Lake Dillon we are hoping mother nature cooperates and allows us to hoist the tent and get our DYC Clubhouse ready for the 2011 season. We need your help and hope that you will join us at the DYC promptly at 09:00 so we can get the work done and let us all enjoy the rest of the memorial day weekend. In addition to raising the DYC Tent and cleaning the clubhouse, we needed your help staining the deck rails and bench and work on the our flag mast that is in need of repair. Thanks in advance for the help. Gerry and I look forward to seeing you.

JrJunior Sailing Program News
Captain Stacey is gearing up for another great year

The DYC Junior Sailing Program is getting geared up for another exciting season on one of North America's highest and challenging lakes! The junior sailing program is growing and expanding every year and that goes double for this upcoming season! Over the past several seasons the junior clubhouse has become a welcome place for kids between the ages of 10 and 18 to come and learn the beautiful sport of sailing, advance skills or race in a competitive yet fun atmosphere.

2010 Junior group

This coming 2011 summer season the junior program is proud to announce that Jordan Nelson will be the new Junior Instructor and James Welch will be the Assistant Instructor as well as the racing coach for intermediate and advanced sailors. Stacey Brooks Connolly will return as the Head Instructor. As a team the three will work to grow and advance this exciting program for the locals and visitors of Summit County. They will continue to welcome and teach kids in the SOS program as well as welcome the Keystone Science School for the first time. Starting in July the advanced sailors will race every Friday night to the delight of parents watching on from a pontoon boat off of A dock and the Tiki bar. All parents and supporters are invited to join the festivities aboard the pontoon boat. Bring hors d'oeuvres, drinks and your support for kids as they race for fun and winnings.

And last but not least, our juniors are gearing up for a trip to San Diego for the Olympic qualifiers for the Junior Olympics. Anyone who is interested in finding out more information about this fun and challenging trip in July should contact Vickie Ragle or Jeff O'Neill for all the details.

The junior program kicks off on Monday, June 27th and runs camp every week Monday to Thursday (10 am to 4pm) and Friday (10am to 1pm) through August 12th. For price details and signing up please go directly to the DYC site at www.dillonyachtclub.com and click on the icon for the junior program.

Captain Stacey Brooks Connolly welcomes all parents and interested kids to contact her directly as well for more details about the summer program. She is the owner of Sea Dog Sailing, Inc. which is an American Sailing Association school. When she is not out on the lake she spends the rest of her year teaching adults in exciting venues around the world including the Caribbean, Mediterranean and the South Pacific on yachts up to 52 feet. Contact her through her website at www.seadogsailing.comor call her on her cell at 404-374-4754. She is happy to speak to you anytime!

See you on the dock!

The DYC Junior Sailing program is getting ready for another summer of sailing classes, and we are expecting even more kids then last year. We looked through the supplies, and there aren't enough life jackets for all the kids! If anyone wants to help out our Junior program by donating life jackets we would really appreciate it! The kids are ages 10-18, so smaller kid sized and adult sized life jackets will be perfect!

Contact Vickie or Sarah Ragle if you can help out.
