| JMSCHC Nutrition Tip | |
Know what's in your drink!
Your favorite frozen coffee beverage can have more than 500 calories and a large amount of sugar. For instance, a small McDonald's Frappe Mocha has 560 Kcal and 56g sugar (=14tsp). Make a healthier choice with the Iced Latte - 80Kcal and 6g sugar (1.5tsp)
Tip: Check company website and make a list of better choices!!!

| Visit from New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez | | |
On Friday, April 29th, New England Patriot's TE Aaron Hernandez visited with children at the Gardner Pilot Academy in Allston to highlight that a healthy body starts with a healthy mind. He stopped by the Joseph M. Smith Community Health Center's School Based Site and our Health Center on western Ave. to learn more about JMSCHC primary care services, particularly in behavioral health. He is lending his name to support the work of our partner the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology (MSPP) and their Lucero Latino Mental Health Program to raise awareness about the need for culturally and linguistically appropriate mental health services to meet the unique needs of the growing Latino community.
JMSCHC is privileged to have several graduates of MSPP and the Lucero Latino program, as well as several interns on the team who are committed to closing the gap and who work very hard to eliminate health disparities in mental health. We are grateful to Aaron for his leadership in this issue.

| CDC & DPH visit JMSCHC | |
Representatives from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) visited our Allston site on April 21 to learn about the good work we have done with our Prevention & Wellness (P&W) program, which aims to educate patients and raise awareness regarding recommended preventive health screenings in a culturally appropriate way.
Our P&W team assists patients in navigating the health care system, our community partners and facilities and provides assistance to overcome barriers such as language,
transportation and health benefit coverage in order to offer
preventive services.
As a result of this program, our Pap test screening rate is 94% of women, we've doubled the number of screening colonoscopies performed each year, and the CDC was impressed by our use of our Electronic Medical Record and data in helping to run the program and measure outcomes and goals. Congratulations to our team for serving almost 5,900 patients since 2008!
