Encouraging Word

September 2012

Oh, the Commotion of Emotions

It's a proven fact. Initially when you're trying to get on your feet again as a single mom, your emotions will likely flare up and down, much like a roller coaster ride. After all, you cook and clean, do all the work yourself, pay the bills, and give of your time as the homeroom monitor.

You handle so much, but why can't you get a handle on those out-of-control emotions? You parent all day long. But why can't you 'parent' your emotions? How can you learn to manage your feelings so they don't manage you?

Emotions are crazy and mysterious. Have you noticed? They drive you, challenge you. Emotions have a mind of their own. They fluctuate, flare up, bless, or depress. They're convincing, fickle, satisfying, confusing, unruly, dangerous, and often times extremely exhilarating. They can be your best friend, granting expansive pleasure by what's happening on the inside, or they can be your worst foe, signaling extensive danger by what's happening on the outside.

But the truth is, God has given you authority over your feelings. They don't have to dictate your internal welfare. Rather, you can rule over them. How? By changing what you think by falling under the control of the Holy Spirit.

The spiritual formula remains quite clear:

Holy Spirit + God's Word + My will =

a renewed mind leading to a renewed destiny

It's totally fascinating! Totally encouraging! Totally unbelievable!

Friends, I'm working on a project now for single moms about this very topic and I need your help. From time to time I will be emailing you questions as I'll be taking surveys among single moms on various topics dealing with your emotions. Would you be so very kind to help me by responding and giving me your input? I would so appreciate you joining me in this little adventure and hope to share my results with you later.

So, for now, here's the first round of questions.

#1 - What are your top 3 negative emotions or roadblocks that cause you the greatest amount of emotional struggle?  (Examples: devastation, fear, low self worth, anger and bitterness, guilt, loneliness, or perhaps one not mentioned here)

#2 - Explain why you picked those top 3 negative emotions and how they hamper you.

This I can tell you. God wants you totally healed of any area that disrupts, blocks, or impairs your communication and relationship with Him. Christ is fully able to restore your most devastating of circumstance or plethora of emotions. He desires to transform you into someone you never knew existed. God LOVES you. And just like you'd want your children free to experience your love, He wants you free to experience His.

So let me hear from you. And for the next four or five months, I'll be corresponding with you in this way.

I love you bunches and have you in my heart. And remember:

YOU ARE SO VALUABLE AS A SINGLE MOM.

And yes, you make a difference.

Hugs to you,

Pam
