Most of us don't like the thought that someone out there is fixated on us. How scary to think that a love-sick person, someone consumed with every breath we take and gripped with every place we go, lives with an obsession to calculate our every move. The very idea spooks us to the core.
Yet I discovered an interesting analogy a couple of weeks ago. God's a stalker. He's preoccupied with our every sneeze and gripped with every concern. He's an examiner, an investigator of the very ground that cushions our steps. He stealthily pursues us with the sole intention of divine protection and guidance. I wonder how many times we have left the house, planning on arriving at 'Destination A' and ended up at 'Destination B', children of God blindly unaware of God's premeditated intervention for some eternal purpose. Won't it be stunning someday when we get to heaven, and God lets us see all the ways He's redirected our earthbound paths.
That happened to a single mother at our statewide Survive 'N' Thrive conference this month. Hundreds of single moms were making their way to the church for a fantastic Oklahoma weekend extravaganza. One mom left the house headed for Quail Springs Mall, 'Destination A.' As she drove by the church hosting our conference, she noticed the guard in the entry way and thought, "I'm lost. He can tell me the way to the mall." She approached the conference director, rolled down her window, only to hear him immediately ask her the question he'd already spoken to countless others, "Are you a single mother?" Rather puzzled she answered, "Yesssss???" (and probably thought, "How'd he know?") Only to hear him reply, "Well, then ma'am, go right that way," as he pointed to the entrance door.
So, inquisitively she followed his directions and walked inside to the registration area. Volunteers greeted her, gave her a rose, and made her feel like a queen. Guess she thought, "Well, good grief. I'm staying!"
When the Friday night altar call began, a few of the conference volunteers couldn't help but notice this mom who had "stumbled upon" the event. Within minutes, she was prostrated at the front, obviously presenting the issues of her heart before the Lord. Her 'Destination A' - Quails Springs Mall, ended up at 'Destination B' - the altar steps of the Survive 'N' Thrive conference!
I wonder? Did she receive Jesus Christ as her Savior that night? Did she find relief for her deepest concern? Exactly what kind of encounter did she have with God?
Friends, perhaps you wonder at times, "Does God notice the details of my life? He does! He's your stalker, your Heavenly Director, moving the checkers around on your "checker board of life" orchestrating His divine plan. The Word of God instructs:
- Psalm 16:9 - The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.
- Job 34:21 - For His eyes are upon the ways of a man, And He sees all his steps.
- Proverbs 20:24 - Man's steps are ordained by the Lord.
So be on the look out! And the next time you encounter an interruption or some strange change of plans, beware and be encouraged:
Your - Stalker's - On - The - Move!
