An encouraging message from Pam

January 2010
God CAN Do It - But You MUST Do It
Happy New Year, my precious single mom little sister!   Glad you made it through the holidays!  And now you face new challenges. Amen?!!!!!

I know many of you have already made New Year's resolutions of all sorts:  I'm gonna lose weight; I'm gonna get on a budget; I'm gonna get myself back into church."  Hooray! But I've discovered if God's will is not in it, then your "confetti of good intentions" will soon lose its pizzazz by the end of January.

Oh, friend, listen to me.  I'm totally convinced of one New Year's resolve that you MUST do.  It's the only resolution that promises you a prosperous outcome. I can say with assurance that if you make this one decision, you'll not be permanently unraveled but confidentially secure in God's watchful care. David nailed it in Psalm 37:5.
Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will do it.

What does it mean to commit?  The Greek word for commit means to relegate, or assign something dear to someone else's care.  With God, the first step to commitment (doing single motherhood God's way) requires detachment (doing life your way.)  To commit your singleness to Christ means to perform your motherhood role under the authority of God's holy Word.  It takes a determined resolve, a deliberate choice to continually roll over your life calendar, burdens, emotions, and dreams to Him, entrusting the well being of your 2010 life map to a higher source.

Look what God's Word promises to single moms who commit:

Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established.  Psalm 16:3
Tomorrow's stability and success depend on a lifestyle of submission today.

Commit yourself to the Lord; let Him deliver and rescue you. Psalm 22:8
Inner peace from anxious speculations becomes reality when you give up control and trust God.

Commit your way to the Lord.  He will make your righteousness shine like the noonday sun.  Psalm 37:6
An honorable reputation and experiential belief in your right standing with God follows a human will that submits.

Commit, lay down your cause before Him and watch the God who does unsearchable wonders without number.  Job 5:8
The same God who calculates the degrees of the Earth's axis remains the same God who works everything together for good for those who acquiesce to His rule.

And He is able to guard what is committed to Him. 2 Timothy 1:12
No need for fretful scenarios of what might happen.  Allegiance to Christ garrisons the reality of His protection over every door of fretful foreboding.

God CAN do it - carry you productively through a triumphant year without a spouse.
But you MUST do it - relax your grip and put God in charge.

Beloved friend, Howard Thurman said it well: There is no personal success where there is no initial personal surrender.

May you be blessed with the best year ever as a single mom!  Know this: I BELIEVE IN YOU!

Lovin' you,
Pam
