Don't miss the fifth annual Burleson Old Town Boo Bash Oct. 27
Kids, put on your Halloween costume and bring your trick-or-treat bag to the City of Burleson's fifth annual Burleson Old Town Boo Bash on Saturday, Oct. 27. The fun, which includes free trick or treating for children from birth to 12 years old, takes place 6 p.m.-8 p.m., on Ellison Street, between Main Street and Johnson Avenue (124 W. Ellison St.). Children will enjoy free candy, games, bounce houses, a pumpkin patch full of free pumpkins to decorate, and a costume parade. The high school FFA will host a petting zoo. Read More |
Tell us what you think about the community and City government
We want to know what you think about Burleson and City government. The City of Burleson 2012 Citizen Survey will be sent randomly to 1,200 Burleson households beginning Oct. 15. If you are one of those selected for the survey, you should receive a pre-notification postcard between Oct. 8 and Oct. 15. The National Citizen Survey includes more than a dozen categories. The adult in the selected households who is 18 or older and who most recently had a birthday is who the City wants to hear from. Postage paid envelopes are included so respondents may mail the completed survey back to the National Research Center in Belle Mead, New Jersey. Youth feedback will be solicited as well. Passenger Car #411 is being moved to Old Town pad site Saturday
Grab some coffeee or hot chocolate Saturday morning and get an up close view of the refurbished Passenger Car #411 as it is moved from the old City service center on Main Street to the new pad site in the Burleson City Hall parking lot on Ellison Street. Drivers will want to seek alternate routes around Burleson's Old Town on Oct. 6 between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. The car's route will start at the intersection of Main Street and Renfro Street, make a right on Renfro Street then a left on Wilson Street at the intersection with Renfro Street. Cranes will be set up in the Burleson City Hall parking lot as well as on Ellison Street. Those streets will be closed to the public between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Read More

City will dedicate Military Veterans Grove at Centennial Park Nov. 3
The City's Military Veterans Grove at Centennial Park, 1100 Scarlet Sage Pkwy, will be dedicated Saturday, Nov. 3, at 9 a.m. Residents are asked to bring friends, neighbors and shovels to plant 100 native trees in a geometric pattern. The planting is designed to highlight a future time capsule at the center of that pattern.The trees will honor the men and women who serve or who have served in the armed forces.To guarantee your tree planting experience, please sign up in advance by calling Charlene Logan at the BRiCk, at 817-426-9104 by Thursday, Nov. 1. Celebrate the founding of Burleson Oct. 13 in Old Town
Burleson will commemorate the 20th annual Founders Day in Old Town on Saturday, Oct. 13, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The fun will take place on Ellison Street. The Burleson Heritage Foundation will host a walk from First Baptist Church (corner of Ellison and Johnson) to the railroad tracks at 10 a.m. That will be followed by a "homecoming" for the linotype at the Burleson Visitors Center, 124 W. Ellison St. The center was once home to the Burleson News and the Burleson Dispatcher. The linotype was a standard in newspaper offices for almost 100 years. Mock gunfights and great food, arts and crafts, carnival rides and entertainment will all mark the celebration of the founding of Burleson, Texas, on Oct. 10, 1881. |
Register by today for the rescheduled Far Out Family Fun Campout!
The Far Out Family Fun Campout that was called off in May due to severe weather is back on! The new date is 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, to 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the field behind the Chisenhall Fields Sports Complex baseball diamonds. The fun includes a hot dog dinner with marshmallows for dessert. Campers bring their tent, flashlight, bug spray and a passion for enjoying nature at its finest! Don't bring open flamed lanterns or grills. All ages are welcome but no pets are allowed at the campout. The cost is $20 per family. Paper shredding is added to Nov. 3 Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Recycling Event
The City of Burleson is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Collection, Electronic Recycling, and Paper Shredding event on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the City's old service center, 133 N. Main St. The event is 9 a.m.-11 a.m. and is only available to residents who live inside the Burleson city limits (proof of residency is required). Household hazardous waste items are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the City of Fort Worth's Crud Cruiser is full. E-Waste Collections is coordinating the electronic recycling. There will be a fee for TVs ($10); computer hard drive erasing ($10); and air conditioning unit Freon disposal ($15). Merit Document Destruction is providing the shredding services. City took in 315 pounds of medicine in four-hour Take Back Meds event
Rain didn't dampen the City of Burleson's first ever participation in the Take Back Meds Event on Sept. 29. City staff and volunteers took in 315 pounds (12 boxes) of medicine from 81 cars. The City of Burleson partnered with the City of Fort Worth for the event that took place Saturday, Sept. 29, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the old City service center, 133 N. Main St. This is part of a nationwide Drug Enforcement Administration event. Residents dropped off unused, expired or unwanted medications (prescription and over the counter), in both pill and liquid form, for safe disposal. The drugs collected on Sept. 29 will be incinerated.

City seeks applicants to fill seat on Planning and Zoning Commission
The City is seeking applicants for a seat on the Planning and Zoning Commission. The new commission member would serve until Sept. 30, 2013. The deadline to apply is today, Oct. 5. The Planning and Zoning Commission's responsibility is to approve plans for subdivisions and make recommendations to the city council regarding land use issues, rezoning requests, amendments to the zoning ordinance and other development regulations, and amendments to and updates of the Comprehensive Master Plan. Trash Bash draws record number of volunteers Sept. 22
The Sept. 22 Burleson Trash Bash drew in the largest number of participants the City's environmental services division has ever had for a litter pickup event. The 375 participants removed 7,000 pounds of litter and debris during the two-hour event. They also contributed an estimated 750 hours of volunteer service which is equivalent to one full-time employee picking up trash every day during a 40-hour work week for 18.75 weeks. |

Due to popular demand, BRiCk is now open at 5 a.m., Monday-Friday
Due to popular demand, the Burleson Recreation Center (the BRiCk) is now open at 5 a.m., Monday-Friday. The weekend hours have not changed. Patrons will have access to the weight room, indoor track, and basketball gym starting at 5 a.m. instead of 6 a.m. The BRiCk, located at 550 N.W. Summercrest Blvd., will be open 5 a.m.-9 p.m., Monday-Thursday; 5 a.m.-8 p.m. on Friday; 8 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturday; and 1 p.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday. Read More |

Who do you contact at the City? Go to the Who Do I Contact page on the City website. Do you have street maintenance problems? Then call Street Maintenance for potholes, curb or sidewalk repair, overgrown tree/shrub in right-of-way, street signs and traffic signals. Call the Water Department for water meter leaks or broken water mains. If it is an after hours emergency call the police department. If it is an emergency, call 911. Who Do I Contact has a brief listing of each City department, a link to their City website page, and a phone number. |
