Next Thursday, the Burleson Police Department will visit the library at 10:30 a.m. For more pictures of the firefighters, go to the Burleson firefighters visit Summer Reading Club album on the City of Burleson Facebook page. |

City practices prevention when it comes to dealing with mosquitoes
Burleson has two positive West Nile Virus mosquito pools inside the city limits, but there are no confirmed human cases of West Nile Virus in the city limits. The two positive mosquito pools are in the area of Lena Drive and Robin Court. Residents of those areas were notified by the City via educational door hangars. Staff in the City's environmental services division checked for stagnant water in the affected areas and found none. The City works with Tarrant County Public Health to conduct surveillance for mosquito-borne illnesses. The City does not spray for mosquitoes, because spraying is temporary and only affects the adult mosquitoes in the area of the spraying. According to Neighborhood Services Director Lisa Duello, the City does not necessarily test ponds or bodies of water but the City does treat bodies of water to kill mosquito larvae before they become adult biting mosquitoes. If the ponds/creeks have fish/minnows or otherwise considered "mosquitofish" the fish will eat the larvae. City staff is trapping adult mosquitoes and testing for the West Nile virus. Mosquito season in Burleson is typically May-October with August as the peak month. For more, go to the City website's Mosquito Control page and to the FAQ for mosquitoes. |
Slow down, pay attention in work zones
Be on the alert for work zones in Burleson! The City's Public Works employees set up work zones in compliance with the latest Texas Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices by using barricades, cones and flaggers as necessary. Drivers should slow down when approaching a work zone and follow the signs and/or flagger's directions in order to safely make their way through the construction area. To date, with great fortune, the City of Burleson has not had injury accidents in a work zone. Let's slow down, pay attention, and keep it that way! |
Get your free mulch at the City's center
Are you in need of mulch for a landscaping project? Would you like it for free? If you live in the city limits of Burleson (must show proof of residency) you can pick up free mulch at the City's Compost/Mulch/Recycle Center between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The center is located at 620 Memorial Plaza, behind Fire Station #2. The mulch consists of brush, tree limbs and yard waste that has been placed at the curb for pick up or dropped off at the center by residents. There is no limit to how much mulch you can pick up at the center. The City has a small front end loader that will load your pickup or trailer for you, or you can load your own mulch by hand. For more information, call Darin Parle at the Municipal Service Center, 817-426-9869. Happy landscaping! |
If you drain your swimming pool into the street or storm drain, you could be polluting drinking water
Did you know that the water in your backyard swimming pool could be a source of pollution? If you drain your swimming pool into the street or directly into the storm drain, it can be. Swimming pool water may contain significant levels of chlorine or other chemicals used in treating, disinfecting or cleaning your swimming pool that can be harmful to aquatic organisms. Any water that goes into a storm drain eventually ends up in the nearest creek, stream or area lake without being treated. Those lakes are where we get our drinking water supply. You don't need a permit, but you do need approval from the City prior to draining the water from your swimming pool. For more information about draining your swimming pool, go to the Stormwater Education for Homeowners page, on the City website and click on Swimming Pool Water. |
