Winery and animal shelter host 2nd annual Yappy Hour tonight
The Burleson Animal Shelter and Lost Oak Winery are teaming up for the second annual Yappy Hour tonight, 7 p.m.-10 p.m., at the winery. The shelter staff will bring adoptable pets for on-site adoption. Yappy Hour is open to the public. There is no fee to attend. Adoption fees range from $55 to $65 and include basic vaccinations and microchipping. Depending on the age of the animal, the fee also includes a rabies vaccination voucher and heartworm and FELV (feline leukemia virus) test. Guests may bring their own pets. Leashes are strongly advised for all pets who attend. The winery will be serving a special called Pooch Punch (a white sangria). The Burleson Senior Activity Center is hosting a Christmas in July Craft Fair on Saturday, July 21, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Stop by the 216 S.W. Johnson Ave. center and browse through one-of-a-kind handmade items and gifts. If you are interested in selling your unique homemade items or are interested in more information about the fair, call the center at 817-295-6611. |

Tarrant County Public Health permits and inspects food establishments in Burleson. What are they building/renovating?
Are you curious about what is being built or renovated in Burleson? Then check out the 2012 Building Permit Activity page on the City website. The monthly reports are currently updated to May. June reports should be on the website by the middle of this month. The reports show permits issued, active permits, completed projects, commercial certificates of occupancy applications and neighborhood permits. Call 817-426-9633 for more information. |
Recycle at the curb or take it to the Compost/Mulch/Recycle Center
The City's Recycle and Compost Center is staying busy with residents beautifying their yards by trimming trees and raking leaves. The center is located at 620 Memorial Plaza, behind Fire Station #2. It is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. The site can only accept brush, tree limbs and yard waste. Other wood or wood byproducts may be placed at the curb during a resident's zone collection week. Did you hear the February ED update?
Did you attend the City's Economic Development Lunch and Learn in February? Bradley Ford, the City's economic development director, talked about how private employment has changed since 2007, the rate of housing starts (2005 was the peak year), the unemployment rate (2011 statistics show it is down to 6.1 percent), and sales tax allocations to Burleson (climbing steadily since 2003). It's easy to make a utility bill payment
Did you know that you have multiple options when it comes to paying your utility bill from the City of Burleson? You can pay online, go with paperless billing (City staff emails you the bill instead of sending you a paper version), pay in person at Burleson City Hall, or mail payments to city hall. There is also a drop box on the east side of city hall if you stop by before or after normal business hours. For more, go to the Payment Options page on the City website. |
Check out adult softball and basketball league play at BRiCk and Hidden Creek
Do you like softball or basketball? Then don't miss watching the summer league play at the BRiCk and at Hidden Creek Sports Complex. Admission is free. The BRiCk is hosting a competitive and a recreational league of Adult Basketball. Games are Mondays, with start times from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. If softball is more your style, Adult Softball is Monday-Thursday at Hidden Creek with start times of 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. For schedules and standings, go to the City of Burleson Athletics Division page on the City website. |
