Spazmatics, Hot Sounds concertThe Spazmatics come back to Old Town to close out Hot Sounds of Summer series

A Hot Sounds of Summer concert series favorite is returning June tonight to close out the City's free series in Old Town Burleson. The Spazmatics bring the ultimate new wave '80s show to the City stage at the corner of Ellison and Wilson streets (124 W. Ellison St.). The 90-minute show starts at 7:30 p.m. The Spazmatics are an act, complete with skinny ties, horn-rimmed glasses, and all of the dance steps and sounds of the 1980s. All you need is a lawn chair or blanket, and maybe some sunscreen and, you are set for the show!Event coordinators advise concert-goers to leave the glass bottles at home. Arrive early to eat at the restaurants and stroll through the shops in Old Town. You may also bring your own picnic and refreshments but drink responsibly.

Take a swim July 4th, but don't take your trash/recycling to the curb

Swim at the BRiCk's outdoor pool on the Fourth of July! Hours are 1 p.m.-8:30 p.m. The outdoor pool will be open, but the BRiCk will be closed. Hidden Creek Golf Course will be closed during the day. The clubhouse and patio will open at 5 p.m. for the 9:20 p.m. fireworks show. No alcohol can be brought on the golf course premises. The restaurant at the golf course will be cooking hamburgers, hot dogs, and French fries and serving watermelon. All other City facilities - with the exception of the police department and fire stations - will be closed Wednesday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. There will be no trash or curbside recycling collection. To see the normal business hours for all City facilities, please read the news release.

Kings of swing, Asleep at the Wheel, will headline City's July 4th celebration

Don't leave town Wednesday, July 4th! For the second year in a row, the City's free Independence Day CelebrationAsleep at the Wheel, Fourth of July concert and fireworks show will take place at the Chisenhall Fields Sports Complex. The Burleson Lions Club will host the annual parade at 9 a.m. The parade route winds from Irene Street to Gregory, Johnson, Ellison, Main, Bufford, Warren, Gregory, and back to Irene. Admission to the City's Independence Day celebration is free. The gates to Chisenhall Fields Sports Complex, 500 W. Hidden Creek Pkwy., will open at 5 p.m. The concert by Asleep at the Wheel kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Asleep at the Wheel will be set up in the field just to the right of the arched entrance to the sports complex. They will play until the lights go down for the fireworks show, which is set to begin after 9:20 p.m. The show consists of both traditional and low aerial firework displays. For more about the best places to sit, what you can and can't bring, and how to exit the park after the fireworks are over, please read the news release.

Leave fireworks outside the City limits; enjoy City's free show July 4th

The storage, use, possession or sale of fireworks is prohibited inside the city and within 5,000 feet of the corporate limits of the City of Burleson. The exception to the rule is the City's Fourth of July fireworks show, which is free to the public and coordinated by a licensed pyrotechnician. That City show is slated for approximately 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4, at the Chisenhall Fields Sports Complex, 500 W. Hidden Creek Pkwy. Violations of the fire code are subject to a fine of up to $2,000. Each day that a violation is permitted to exist is a separate offense. The City of Burleson's 5,000-foot rule was added as an amendment to the City's fire ordinance in August 2006. Fireworks stands must be more than 5,000 feet outside the city limits. The fire marshal, fire inspector/investigator and public safety officers will be on alert during the Fourth of July holiday. Fireworks will be confiscated and citations may be issued.

Fourth of July fireworks 2011You have to sit outside the fence to see the fireworks from the golf course

You'll have to sit outside the fence at Hidden Creek Golf Course if you want to see the fireworks show on the Fourth of July. In years past, those who wanted a remote site to watch the City's fireworks show have parked at the golf course, 555 E. Hidden Creek Pkwy. You still can park at the golf course, and you can enjoy the clubhouse patio, but due to the ongoing redesign at the course, no one will be permitted to spread a blanket or set up chairs to watch the fireworks from the golf course side of the fence next to the I-35W service road. Fireworks fans will have to stay on the outside service drive side of the fence. The sprigs and new grass on the golf course are still very wet so any traffic, including foot traffic, would damage that new growth. The driving range and the tee area will also be closed. Drive up to the clubhouse area and enjoy food on the patio. The Restaurant at Hidden Creek Golf Course will be open and serving hamburgers, hot dogs, French fries and watermelon. Because the golf course has a license with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, no alcohol may be brought on to the golf course. Coolers will be checked.

Tell us, the City, how we are doing!

Tell us what you think! City staff has posted three surveys on the City website on the "How Are We Doing?" page. Tell us what you think about the way we communicate with you and your avenues of communicating with us; tell us how we are doing about code compliance in the city; and put in your two cents about the Burleson Police Department's programs. Every opinion counts!

Get your pet microchipped before July 4

The Burleson Animal Shelter offers microchipping during storm season and if you are going on vacation and leaving your pet in the care of someone else. The cost is $15, regardless of where you live. You must provide proof of rabies vaccination to get the microchip. Animal microchips are about the size of a grain of rice and typically are implanted just beneath the surface of the skin, between the shoulder blades. Each chip has a unique identification number that links your pet to your personal information so if a dog or cat is lost, chances of being reunited with you are good. A veterinarian, animal shelter or humane society can use a scanner to read a pet's chip. The staff then calls 24Pet Watch Lost Recovery Service with that registered chip number. 24PetWatch gives the staff your information, and the staff contacts you. Go to the Microchipping Services page on the City website.

Join the LitterRANGERS volunteers!

Become part of the LitterRANGERS litter cleanup volunteer program! LitterRANGERS is a program established by the City of Burleson. Volunteers agree to pick up litter along roadways, drainage ditches, or other public areas. The City provides the trash bags, gloves and safety vests for volunteers. The volunteers must bring the litter collected to the City for inspection and disposal.  For every bag of litter collected, the volunteer earns one hour of community service work. LitterRANGERS is open to volunteers who live in Burleson, including court-appointed volunteers. A parent or guardian must supervise volunteers who are age 18 or under when participating in any LitterRANGERS activity. Call Bianca Chafin, environmental programs specialist at 817-426-9842.  Read More
