FastLane plays tribute to the Eagles at June 15 Hot Sounds of Summer concert
Don Henley fans, don't miss tonight's Hot Sounds of Summer concert in Old Town Burleson. The band FastLane, "the Southwest's premier tribute to the Eagles," is headlining the third week of the five-week Hot Sounds of Summer Concert Series. This is country rock played by a band of six who have between 10 and 40 years in the music business. The Friday night concerts on the City stage at the corner of Ellison and Wilson streets (124 W. Ellison St.) require no admission. All you have to bring is your blanket or chair for the 7:30 p.m. start. Event coordinators advise concert-goers to leave the glass bottles at home. Arrive early and eat at Old Town restaurants and stroll through the shops. Or, bring your own picnic and refreshments but drink responsibly. Disorderly conduct or public intoxication will not be tolerated at the Hot Sounds concerts. The rest of the Hot Sounds schedule includes Junior Brown on June 22 and The Spazmatics on June 29. City-commissioned Centennial book is available via Hot Sounds and the library
The Burleson Century book is available for sale at the Hot Sounds of Summer concerts and at the Burleson Public Library. Members of the Friends of the Library are selling the hardback for $38 and soft cover for $27. The Hot Sounds sales table is next to the Burleson Visitors Center at the corner of Ellison and Wilson streets. Payment at outdoor venues must be made by cash or check. The Burleson Century can also be purchased at the library and a copy is available for checkout. At the library, you can pay with cash, check or use a debit or credit card. The 240-plus page hardback book was commissioned by the City. The author, James L. Haley, visited Burleson and talked to residents concerning family, church and commercial history. The history book starts with a preface by Mayor Ken Shetter and ends with a chapter by former city manager Curtis Hawk. Burleson Century covers the exploration of this area, the founding of the city, the Roaring 20s, the Depression, World War II, the Baby Boom, and Modern Times. Read More |
Protect pets in severe weather
It's storm season in North Texas, and you aren't the only one affected. Some pets can suffer anything from mild anxiety to terror when strong winds, thunder, lightning and torrential rains hit. Planning for your pet's safety can prevent them from becoming injured, getting lost or causing property damage if they try to run from the storm. Make sure all of your pets have identification on them. Bolster that identification with a $15 microchip from the Burleson Animal Shelter. Bring outside pets inside before the storm hits. And, when you prepare your emergency supplies, remember to include food, water, medication and leashes for your pets. Read More |

The 2012 Junior Fire Academy students included Jacie Johnson, Justin Ford, Taybor West, Bailey Nix, Alexis Payne, Dylan Jacobs, Jared Whitmire, Wade McCrory, Isabella Roberts, Dawson Barnes, and Colson Johns. Are high weeds and grass a nuisance?
Are high weeds and grass making your neighborhood unsightly? High grass and weeds pose a fire hazard, block visibility for drivers, harbor rodents and snakes and contribute to pests like mosquitoes and chiggers. City code requires property owners and tenants to keep grass and weeds in their yards and vacant lots less than 12 inches to the roadway. To file a complaint online, go to the Request Tracker page on the City website or call the Municipal Service Center at 817-426-9830 and ask for code enforcement. |
Municipal Court hosted Teen SWAG event
The Municipal Court staff hosted the Teen SWAG Affair at the BRiCk June 9. There was food, fun, prizes and giveaways as well as a DWI simulator and a pedal car with an obstacle course. For more pictures, go to the Teen SWAG photo album on the City of Burleson Facebook page. |
