Click it, or get a ticket through June 3
Seat belts are strong, seat belts save lives. That's the message this year as law enforcement agencies across the state participate in the Click It or Ticket program, May 21 - June 3, 2012. Although officers enforce seat belt laws year-round, efforts are intensified over the Memorial Day holiday. On Dec. 31, 2011, a 31-year-old Burleson man and a 26-year-old Joshua woman were killed when they were ejected from a Volkswagen Passat that had rolled. The two were not wearing seatbelts. State law now requires that every person in a vehicle be secured by a seat belt whether riding in the front or back seat. Fines and court costs for failing to fasten seat belts can add up to $250 or more. Read More |

Building Safety Month theme this week is Fire Safety and Awareness
The International Code Council is hosting Building Safety Month in May. Mike Holmes, HGTV celebrity and contractor, is lending his support to the campaign as 2012 Building Safety Month Honorary Ambassador. The theme for May 21-27 is Fire Safety and Awareness. The United States Fire Association states that the top five fire-safety topics most frequently identified with home fire deaths are smoke alarms, escape plans, child fire safety, older adult fire safety (cooking and heating) and careless smoking. For more on what you can do, go to the Building Safety Month page, or contact the City's Building Permits and Inspections Division at city hall at 817-426-9611. |
